Could any one specify on situation between brake less cyclists and police during Berlin Bicycle Week? I can imagine there's more brake less bikes than usual and what about cops? More than usual or they became more tolerant for a week?

If you're still about on the 10th come to this

But yeah it's very flat. Big roads fuck all traffic. Great place to ride. It's not to big you can cross the city in about an hour at a nice pace. If the weathers good head to Wannsee, nice ride to a huge lake thats good for swimming.

There are also some nice tours around the Müggelsee and Straussee.
Both are located in the east of Berlin. -

I'll be living on and off in Berlin for 6 months but with a road race schedule still in Italy so returning every three weeks for races.
I've two options:
Buy a bike box (<€500) and take my road bike to Berlin every time I fly (restricted to Alitalia as I imagine the budget airlines would cost too much). All in all probably end up spending <€800 on this option as Alitalia isn't cheap. I also don't know whether cruising around Berlin on a €6,000 Cervélo is even practical / desirable.
Buy a track bike (or rent -€?) in Berlin using the funds mentioned above and embrace the track cycling scene in Berlin in order to keep up a semblance of race fitness. Sell or keep bike at the end of the trip.
Only thing is I know next to nothing about the track scene in Berlin, what places there are to ride, etc. So advice would be appreciated.
Also whilst I hold a full UCI license (I gather that's needed for some velodromes) and have raced track before I am very much a novice track rider so take that into account...

isnt the saying: "train heavy, race light"? i reckon you could buy something (half) decent second hand on here and save the costs of flying your bike back and forth. question is if that bike should be a track bike though, because although cycling a track bike is good for your cadence, i reckon you'll have to get used to the race bike and freewheeling again which doesnt sound ideal in racing conditions.
my 2p: buy a road bike for training. if you have extra cash, buy a track bike for some fun training and city riding.

Hello - just wondering if any Berlin-based forumers fancied helping me out... Coming to stay with some friends in Berlin and thinking about trying to buy a basic bike (nothing fancy, less than E100, ideally closer to E50) to use whilst out there that we could then leave as a present for them... anyone got anything suitable for sale, or advice on how best to pick one up, that would fit the bill? Don't mind if dutch-style town bike or general work horse, but the more basic the better I think... cheers

theres the turkish market on maybachufer on i think tuesdays and fridays.. worth it already for the food but also 40% of the bikes locked on the bridge of kottbusser damm are for sale. start looking at one of our fancy and chances are youll be approached by an elderly turkish gentleman swiftly. chances are they dont speak english though so get your marbella handspeak out for bargaining

Thanks for this - I've actually been there before I think, the food was incredible! Do you have a sense of what sort of prices are being asked for? My GF speaks German (but not Turkish) so hopefully we'll get by... cheers
-
• #695
dunno but its cheaper then mauerpark... with german you should be fine, theyve been here for most of their lives and the first/early second generation men tend to speak the language (quite well). its the women of that generation though which sometimes don't speak german despite living here for 50 years.. kray.

Like crap! Not happy with the interior designer at all, but got the kitchen pretty much sorted, all the permits done (managed to get outdoor seating for 40 which was a bonus), found a chimney so trying for a fireplace, its on the corner of Choriner and Oderberger used to be a russian restaurant called Bogus

@Owl, I've got an old Dutch style bike that needs a little work, flat tires etc, you can have it for a beer or two, I'll get a pic later if interested,
also got a folder for 70euros
On a random ride I thought I'd check out Templehof, found it really boring after 2 laps though
ended up heading south to Saarmund, Trebben way, was really nice riding south of the Berliner Ring, found the original Checkpoint Bravo on the way back too
Wondering if there's any interest in a forum ride or drinks sometime?

^ I'm always about, whichever time is good for the majority, but found the Grunwald to get a bit busy/rowdy on the weekends,
road or mtb I'm easy (finally getting the flow of the off road rides in the Grunwald)
If you're open in time I'll definitely need an address, potentially first forumenger meet up for me.
