  • I've entered this too. Not sure if I'll make it but it would be nice to race it properly (ie. the full 100 this time :P) and not have shit go wrong. Would be nice to beat my 3:56 PB from the F1/100.

  • Can haz neutral support?

  • "neutral"? They're far from it. :P

gf's getting out of bed for 10s and 25s these days - her rates must've gone down - so a hundy should be no drama. I'm sure if you promise her pancakes I can get her to throw the odd gel at you.

  • According to an email form the organisers, tomorrow's Hillingdon 10 is full.

    Who's going again?

  • I just won my club 10 on fixed. I'm absolutely elated, I can't stop grinning, I've never won anything sporty before.

Sporting course, 23.42 on 52 x 15. I did the same course on my road bike in similar conditions last week in 25.12. Fixed FTactualW.

  • Fanks :)

  • good job Steve! New tririg brake looks good. I'm wondering whether it would look ridiculously out of place on my Argos fork..

  • Awesome work :) not many people winning stuff on fixed!

  • Brilliant work. And looking pretty sexeh on the biek too. #grooming

Sort of spoils fixed being my excuse for always finishing mid field tho.

  • Thanks all, still smiling. On to the first of the flattish main road courses next week, then my first open TT, I think that may be a bit of a reality check.

Bike feels great, I think I could stretch out a little longer, but we'll see on the fast tracks where I don't get to shuffle about or stand up.

A non-cycling friend saw that pic and asked if I was on my way to fight crime. :)

  • Any tips for a first 10? I'm kind of hoping to get under 30, other than that I've no idea.

I'm on a road bike (this one). Will stay in the big ring and just go for it but I have no computer. I'll just have to go by my lap times, measured roughly on my analogue watch.

  • 1 Don't go off too fast
2 Don't go off too fast
3 Don't go off too fast

    :)

In all seriousness, it is very easy to start to hard and "do a Bobridge" even in a 10

My other suggestion would be to make sure you don't have any flappy/loose clothing - wear your smallest/tightest jersey!

  • don't go too hard, and try to balance just below your lactic threshold throughout, if your legs are burning too much then back off a tiny bit rather than burying yourself and blowing up at half way.

Whatever you do you'll get a PB and something to aim at, oh if you have time to look at your watch on your wrist you aren't trying hard enough, mount it somewhere you can look at it safely if you must!

  • I mailed them to say I can't take up my place. I have had/am having some horrible flu' like lurgy

  • Don't worry too much about it, esp if on an audax bike. That way when you rock up for your second test you'll most likely set a second PB in 2 rides!

  • wear your smallest/tightest jersey!

    Pics plz.

  • I think that it is likely that you will go under 30. The course has gentle undulations so by the end you may consider a little change on the uphill, you're carrying the gears with you after all.

You'll get some idea of how you are going based on who you go by and who goes by you. but otherwise your watch will have to do.

I would tell them that you have just a watch so that they shout you after 11 laps, they try to do so anyway but will keep more of an eye out for you if you ask them to.

The whole thing is very friendly and very "non-competitive" in lots of ways, so just enjoy it.

I am gutted to be missing it this week.

  • Accelerate up to 30 mph, then hold it there until a mile to go, then empty yourself to the finish.
