@hippy your C springs, do they wear out?
I think them wearing is the cause of my rocking cleats. Any experience of rocking.
Mine are wearing at a fast rate.Think I'm going back to shimano soon. I just like to be able to walk with speedplay off the bike, it's useful.

Maybe my cleats aren't mounted FLAT.

Just thinking that.

I think the rocking is a known issue - something to do with the pedal compressing (check back a few pages). Seems to happen quite fast to my cleats too. Quite annoying.
Also considering moving to Shimano.. I pulled my foot out in a standing start at the track last Saturday. I think I need straps.

Yeah I think I brought it up before.
I flipped the C-spring over* and the rocking has gone, which leads me to think it was the c spring. But also the plastic adaptor plate is starting to show signs of wear. I might make up a plate to sit between the adaptor plate and cleat, like the metal one that I see some with.
- I know they're one sided. But only because they've flattened off the edge on the internal bit.

Also anyone got longer spindles kicking around they don't use/need?
My right knee tracks out at the top of stroke, so logic would say longer spindle will help.

You'll see a lot of the pros on Speedplays using the SIDI carbon sole protector with their cleats. Personally I find the feeling becomes really 'icy' if you have lots of float. Works well enough though. (If anybody needs the 3 hole baseplates because theirs are worn, PM me).

There's a definite difference between the clip-in feel on my older pedals. Newer pedals have a more solid 'click'. There's probably some movement on the older pedals but it's never been enough for me to worry about. I've broken a few C-springs. Speedplay reckon it's installation but I've installed them and Scherrit has installed them and they've still broken so I think Speedplay just need to make stronger shit. One thought is that the shoes are cheaper than my others and perhaps they deform more. Seems a bit far fetched though because there's alu adapter plates and shit under the cleat so I'd have to be bending that too.

Speedplay on the track? No thanks.

• #435
Why not?
As an aside, I know it's mostly sensible cyclists in this thread but has anyone ever used Speedplays brklss and lived?
-
• #436
I don't trust them.

I know... This is the first time I've had an issue with them, but I would be lying if I said I hadn't thought about my foot unclipping whilst doing a flying 200.
If it wasn't for the faff of having a dedicated pair of shoes, just for training and racing track (which I would probably forget to bring half the time)...

Buy new pair. Keep them clipped in to the track bike.
-
• #439
I could make some gaffer tape 'straps' too?

SPD-SL + strap mod = sorted.

I went for Keo-compatible type pedals for my track bike, my plan was exactly as Hippo suggests - leave the shoes clipped into the pedals, with the bike hung up in one of the shipping containers.

Fitted those small metal plates.
Done noting to help rocking, even on new base plates, so must be worn clips.
I think maybe fitting the cleats non 100% level before maybe wore c-clips funny. However issue with the plate is they cause friction and what was nice free float is not slightly lumpy and slow.

Shimano time

I like the float though.
Wish they'd just work. Going to try new c spring and see.

• #445
Did you use teflon lube on them?
-
• #446
You shouldn't use mixed old and new bits in the cleats.
-
• #447
dry lube.
Okay I'll put all new cleats on, got a spare pair.
-
• #448
Yeah, teflon dry lube
-
• #449
Yeah, dry lube.
The c clip moves fine. It's the the pedal body now rubbing on the metal protector plate.
It will clearly rub as the plastic 3 plate adaptor has grooves in it from where the pedal body rubs it.
Does your pedal wear the 3 screw adaptor plate? -
• #450
Yeah, with teflon. Spread it on the metal plate.
The pedal body should be fixed - it shouldn't move on the thin metal plate underneath.
I have dents in my thin metal plate.
sounds a bit shit. Will stay with the keep on things for now.
