It's all about dodecahedron wheels.

You fucking luddite.

This is like using a pros performance to rate Ahead stems vs quil. Maybe theres no difference. Doesnt mean they arent a shit load better.

Square? Luxury. Triangles, mate, triangles.

Race today! Brabantse Pijl/La Fleche Brabanconne, last of the Flanders Classics, bit of an inbetweener after the 'Cobbled Classics' leading up to the 'Hilly Classics' with a pretty unimpressive start list at first glance.
Live from 15:10 CET, streams at http://www.procyclinglive.com/livestream/

Has anybody else got really strange sounding commentary on this?
Massive echo on mine.

"aero losses (which are currently pretty big)"
citation needed
I'll provide this for you.. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HXQuSnKkS-I

I take everything that comes from the "win tunnel" with a pinch of salt, Specialized are going to be highly motivated to tell consumers there's no drawbacks aren't they?
The rim brake tarmac would also probably be quicker if it had hidden brakes or at least direct-mount, like most currently raced frames are, it's not the fairest of comparisons
As for citation, I honestly can't remember, there was a fairly big difference though that would mean most would still want a standard rim brake. I'll try and find it when Brabantse is over

"unless in very specific conditions"
Disagree.
In the wet, they don't need to be scrubbed like rims to work
In the dry, you can brake harder and later (within tyre grip confines obvs) so you save time on descents, not to mention reduce hand/arm fatigue so you've still got enough power to have punch up at the end when some 'rim braker' cuts you up.. -

Boonen - "I’d love to try it in training, and in a race. "
Stetina - "I’d love to have road discs someday. I’m all for the progression of the sport, and it’s only beneficial."
Phinney - "I think we’re all ready and waiting for it."
Nathan Haas - "keep disc brakes out" but he's an Aussie so knows nothing.

Haha - he told me he thought they were a dumb idea last time I saw him. Australia is usually about 10-15 years behind the rest of the world though, so it makes sense.

Why? They sell plenty of bikes without discs.
So you want them to compare against aero rim brakes? They used that frame because it was the same. Not much point whacking in their aero frame with hidden calipers.
Quite a lot of pro bikes don't use direct mount..

Is that a Shimano R650? Lol.
-
• #2366
I use them, they work. It's also only a rear brake and gives good clearance.
-
• #2367
Yeah, Dan!

• #2368
Dan only buys pro goods.

• #2369
Hey - I had them on my Rourke. They were okayyyy..
Now - I'm Dura Ace on the nice bike, Sram Red callipers on the dirty one - such braking, many modulation, so buyer.

Pretty widespread at Paris-Roubaix. Think the TGA mechanics even put inline brake quick-releases on to get the opening big enough for quick wheel swaps.

After P-R, the big story in most of the press, of course, was this:
The organisers have to watch it a bit, though, and quite possibly do more--the racers will simply miss a red light announcing that a barrier is about to close--as another incident shortly afterwards showed:

Not as dramatic by the looks of it, but not good.

Yes, but who cares about what happens in Brabant? :)
Ben Hermans won.

Deserved win for the domestique, well played by Phil Gil. But Matthews outsprinted him very easily for 2nd. Let's see if he's as fast up the Cauberg this Sunday

I spoke to the Cannodale mechanics about those brake calipers. As said above, they were the only ones that would accomodate the 30mm Dugast tubs/tractor tyres.

these go up to 35 and look better (not Shimano though)
