Is that also determined by your position on the saddle/frame? I'm quite sure I am riding more on the nose, for better or worse, and only notice more rubbing if I am forcing myself to sit further back onto the saddle.

That has an effect, I sit way back on the bike. If I sat on the nose of a full length saddle slammed forward in the front clamp hole, my thighs wouldn't get near the post.
