1 1?8" disc fork with mudguard mounts - needs approx 395-400 a-c:
this looks almost ideal http://www.cyclocross-store.de/de/gabeln1/cyclocross-fullcarbon-gabel-fork-gunsha-wcc-disc but no mudguard mounts so all i can find is
this
or
http://www.bike-discount.de/de/kaufen/radon-carbongabel-1-1-8-fuer-disc-83031
or any other suggestions?

Which would you find comfortable?
I find the SCR-5 less flexy than the RRL.

to these who know much about bike restoration etc...
i have acquired a rather nice frame which is painted poo brown, i have some decals in the post. i want to raw the frame (nitromors) and then apply the decals to the steel, then add a lacquer/clearcoat. will this be possible? im pretty sure its been done before, anyway, what clearcoat will be best? i want it to have quite a nice finish

How much difference would I notice going from a fork with a-c of 397mm to 405mm? The kinesis fork has the longer a-c but is lighter.

Least of your concern when you tend to ride with a rack and panniers.
Short answer, if you can feel the pea under your bed, you'll notice.
-
• #67534
rather what i thought - not something i will notice
which fork would you buy?

You might not notice it at all, it's less than 30' off your head angle.

I'm picky, I rather wait, or you can order a fork from Genesis (any shop with Sportline or Madison as their distro), the Croix de Fer fork have 395mm length, straight steerer and mudguard mount.
I believe Neil's Wheel can do so for you as they're a Genesis retailer.
-
• #67537
Wait for what? The genesis looks like it may be the same as the German fork but with pannier mounts added.
-
• #67538
I mean I rather wait for the right fork than to get the Kinesis one.
That Genesis one is a perfect replacement for your fork.

Is there a cheap threaded headset with a low stack height? I've got a small frame with an even smaller amount of steerer showing. Probably an inch and a bit but that's with the fork crown against the head tube so less with races installed.

Not quite so sure, unfortunately I can't find any "real-life" examples to fondle. Does one one of them have a hood width and shape similar to 6600?

28s in a 2011 trek madone 4.5?
For above, I needed a super low stack threaded headset and it ended up that the cheap ebay ones where the lowest and worked out fine.
-

Although the SCR-5 took it's style from the old Campagnolo shifter, the hood is closer to the 6600 than the RRL.
The hood on the RRL is more of a V shape than U, as you can see from the photo;

There's an incredibly cheap Tange one that you used to be able to get from cyclebasket with a really low stack. I forget the model but it was sub-£10.

http://www.cyclebasket.com/m9b0s400p540/TANGE_Passage_Threaded_Headset_1_Inch_ maybe? 30.3mm stack.

Had to use one of them on my pink Dolan, basic but did the trick, clever in that the lower racer and crown race are the same piece rather than seperate, which I'm guessing saves a few mm.

Cheers Ed, looks like it's the SCR then. A slightly related question, I'll probably be moving the bars on my current roadie which has 6800 levers to the SS bike. Would it be possible to leave the 6800 clamps on those bars to avoid un/rewrapping fairly new lizardskins and just screw in the SCR levers? Are road lever clamps fairly interchangeable?
Edit: disregard me, I'm a numpty. Will have to unwrap anyway to get the cables out.

Does anyone know if cycling face masks even begin to stop the kinds of particulates we've seen in high concentration this morning? This morning's ride has left me feeling like crap I might nip out and buy one for the ride home - that or do it at snail's pace.

IIRC, they stop PM10 only, but it's the PM2.5 which are the real killers. That makes cycling face masks more of a political gesture than a health protection.

@olaf_von_pokemon for the smaller particulates (along with NOx, CO etc) its even worse, as they cause you to breath more deeply as they are obviously slightly restrictive and thus inhale MORE of them...

This doesn't make sense. You might have to try harder to achieve the same tidal flow if your air intake has a restrictor, but your total mass flow is guided by your autonomic engine management system in response to the requested power output.
Yes.
I intend to be in Cheshire watching the British 4X Series Rd1.
