Thomas Keneally?
Is this historical fiction? Not really my bag.

We need to get our history from somewhere, Clive...

Spain has a long and illustrious history as does London. You are walking away from history.

Interestingly enough I'll be moving to the place where the first
British settlement was founded, Redcliffe... Named by Captain Cook
because of its, wait for it, red cliffs...It's pretty much a retirement community these days so absolutely
perfect...In Queensland? Didn't it take quite a few years before anyone was bonkers enough to settle there?

Before European settlement, the Redcliffe Peninsula was occupied by
the indigenous Ningy Ningy peopleSuitable

I'm very much looking forward to sharing the continent's rich history with my indigenous Australian brothers and sisters... We've been invited over to hang out with Lori's mates in the aboriginal community at Deception Bay...
BTW I'm told D Bay was also named by Captain Cook...

The first European settlement in Queensland, first visited by Matthew
Flinders on 17 July 1799A little after Cook's death and 11 years after the First Fleet.
Please TS, they have precious little history as it is. No need to get it confused.

The party settled in Redcliffe on 13 September 1824, under the
command of Lieutenant Henry Miller with 14 soldiers, some with wives
and children, and 29 convicts. However, this settlement was abandoned
after one year and the colony was moved south to a site on the
Brisbane River at North Quay, 28 km (17 mi) south, that offered a more
reliable water supply. Not a good place for a party.
The indigenous people are naturally concerned about people coming from England with all sorts of infectious diseases.

OK, I've clearly been misinformed...
At least the Bee Gees spent their formative years there...

No. That was Keppel Road/Avenue in Manchester.
Jesus wept. Get it straight. -

Or at least that's what they kept banging on about.

At least I'll have these wonderful sights to look forward to...
Redcliffe has a number of heritage-listed sites, including:
Anzac Avenue: Anzac Memorial Avenue (former)
395 Oxley Avenue: Redcliffe Fire Station
133-137 Redcliffe Parade: Comino's Arcade
185 Redcliffe Parade: Redcliffe Town Council Chambers (former) -

In 1958, The Gibb family from Manchester, England emigrated to this area and called it home for a period. Barry, Robin and Maurice Gibb went on to form the highly successful music group, The Bee Gees.

Hence their song "Staying Alive" based upon their experiences in the area.

In 1958, The Gibb family from Manchester, England emigrated to this area and called it home for a period. Barry, Robin and Maurice Gibb hated every minute of it so went on to form the highly successful music group, The Bee Gees just to get away.

Cliveo would clearly be the trendy lawyer type in Cholly.

Commonwealth of Thieves isn't fiction but historical fiction is what he normally does. Fatal Shore is great.

Take it to the Mills & Boon thread >>>>>>>>
Just read:
http://www.amazon.co.uk/First-Fleet-Rob-Mundle-ebook/dp/B00KV08ZP6/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1428407977&sr=1-1&keywords=first+fleet
which was focused on Phillip and his time going to and in Australia.
Now reading
http://www.amazon.co.uk/The-Fatal-Shore-Robert-Hughes-ebook/dp/B003ATPQ8E/ref=pd_sim_sbs_b_2?ie=UTF8&refRID=11PE45BJDHTCD58Q3X2W
which is a more detailed book. A lot about the background to the idea of transportation and more about the ensuing years after Phillip's departure.
The first one is very based on the writings of the original travellers on the First Fleet. The second is broader and somewhat more opinionated but none the worse for it.
My next book is
http://www.amazon.co.uk/White-Cargo-Forgotten-History-Britains-ebook/dp/B0051UTQB8/ref=pd_cp_kinc_3
about transportation before Australia was invented.
I am then moving on to the American Revolutionary War.
