If you set the two correct ratios then the chain length is exactly same.
e.g. 42x17 is the same chain length as 38x21 so you get a normal 66GI normal gear and a 48GI gear for hills.I went for an even lower small ring of 34t so i have a even lower 42GI hill gear so yeah some tensioning with the rockers will have to happen.

So how do the different gears work, @laner? You change gears manually and just move the rocker dropouts to take up the slack?
