  • The manly way to get metal fasteners is to inherit cans full of rusty ones that your Dad pulled out of cupboards that he found at the dump.
    #slotdriverules

  • Screws? Fasteners for girls.

    Nails - that's a mans fastener.

  • I was railway trained. I put screws in with a hammer.

  • Screws are for when you want to be able to take it apart again.

Or in my case, when you get it all wrong and have to take it apart again.

  • Our house is full of screws - plasterboard, masonry, long, all the types.

But not the width, length and pan head that I needed. I learned so much screw terminology at the weekend.

  • Fucking screws.

  • Shit, what's this?
    A bug infestation? Or fungus?
Please tell me it's not going to be expensive to sort out :-/

  • looks like common or garden mould to me. Clean it off, open the windows sometimes :-)

  • it's aids.

  • or,
a set of cardboard boxes all marked 'GKN',

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/GKN

contanining screws from 1/4 inch 4s to 4 inch 12s.

    (Thanks Dad).

  • Looks like the mould on the windows of the wife's place when we first met.

    You have two choices:
    1) clean it repeatedly, with bleach and repaint most years,
    2) remove the paint layer, (the mould is living in it), repaint, and ventilate.

  • ^^ Class.

  • Stripped floors - anyone got any recommendations or tips on products / processes, specifically hard wax oil?

I'm thinking sanding, whitewash with thinned white emulsion and then hard wax oil on top. I have the pine slivers to fill the gaps. I'm a little way off doing this but would like to buy the oil soon to use on some pine shelves as a test.

  • This is how you do screw storage:

  • Are Rapha moving into the DIY market?

  • Just sourcing the hi-vis pink rawl plugs now.

  • BUT doesn't it make more sense just to put the jars on the shelf?

    #Justsayin'

  • That's quite a shit example really. The idea is that you can use the underside of a shelf as well as having things on the shelf. Life does appear to be too short though.

  • i've had good results with fiddes hard wax oil, research liberon, osmo too

  • Jars... Pah! Old tobacco tins rule.

  • Can anyone recommend a gas plumber to hook up my hob in se14?

  • Yes pm me

Cheers, was looking at the osmo poly oil, not cheap, but looks like it gives good results.

  • I want some nice shelf brackets for some chunky wooden shelves in the kitchen. Something chunky and industrial looking but not the standard ridged metal ones. Where should I look?
