don't spose any of you kitchen semi-pros are off-loading any ovens? ours packed in last night.

We've got an old range sitting in the drive you can have. Electric, 110cm wide. Just been taken out. It's no beauty, but works...looks like this (nicked from someone else's listing).

You could paint the green with that heatproof black paint for fireplaces if you wanted a more neutral colour.

In the case of @princeperch v. nearly everyone else I don't think there is a right or wrong side, it's all about what level of finish/features you're happy with. If you don't DIY though labour is always going to be a significant cost: it's much easier to save on materials.

One thing I would observe @princeperch is that if you've got receipts for all the labour you're paying too much ;)

what's that paint you can paint walls with and it doesn't get fucked up by bike grease?

@Chalfie - Yeah it all works. Not the greatest for baking temperature accuracy (or so the missus swears when she burns cakes), but we've been using up until the kitchen got ripped out the other week. Has a hotplate griddle thingy for steaks / pancakes and even a plate warmer should you so desire. 2 ovens, grill and bonus random empty drawer.
Really not anything special, but you can have for zero dorra,

Something like Dulux Kitchen+ is greaseproof and you can wash it down, so in theory that would work.

So, for less than a grand I had the cold water tank and dead immersion heater removed and a tiny little 10.8KW electric water heater fitted. I've almost doubled the size of the 1br flat! ;)

Now that's the kind of racing I've been training for!

@greenhell for the last two months while we've been without a kitchen we've been cooking with an Andrew James mini oven with hot plates on top. It's no world beater but for c.£50 it's been a godsend, I'd definitely recommend it as a stopgap.

Also our flooring got laid today (wahey) and is being sanded and finished over the weekend. The plastering was finished off as well, so I'll be able to paint over the Easter holidays. Then it's 'just' a staircase, kitchen, bay window and we're done.

the plaster in my bathroom wasnt dry enough for painting for about a week after it was done, and then I was told to wait another week, just to be sure.
