Steve is hard as nails. Deserved better luck. He'll be back out there soon.
This ain't over yet!!!!!
Don't expect Kurt to kick the ball out in a football style injury scenario but it may mean that from being 10 days ahead that he's 6 weeks behind!!!!! And facing a fitter, more battle scarred cyclist! -

• #654
Such a shame.

Just saw this on Twitter. This is not the end. Pacing mob ASSEMBLE!
-
• #656
What rotten luck for Steve. I wish him a speedy recovery.
-
• #657
Oh suit. Poor Steve. Wishing him all the best.
Can you drill a cleat to the bottom of a cast?
-
• #658
That's so disappointing. Hope it's not as bad as it sounds, but broken bones indicates this may be game over for now. :(
-
• #659
Oh.
That's proper gutting. I can't imagine a doctor is going to recommend riding 300 miles a day for a long time. 6 weeks? 8?

I heard Adam Day rides a moped...
-
• #661
This is soo shit though :( Investing life savings and all your time into this effort only for it to be potentially ruined by someone else.

It seems strange to wake up and not see that he's been out for a few hours already. I wish him a speedy recovery.
-
• #664
Wishing Steve a quick healing. Gutted.
-
• #665
Fuuuuuck sake. Gutted to hear this news. Heal up Steve.
-
• #666
Shit. That's sad news.
-
• #667
Devastating! Any one have any idea of healing time for a superhero?
-
• #668
Get him riding fixed and pedalling more with his functioning ankle whilst the other recovers? Hmm

Moped rider suspected to be drunk, according to social meeja updates. FFS.

Steve's ride was getting some but not a huge amount of media attention, obviously deserved a lot more. This story with the moped, a man's dreams shattered, life savings down the drain etc etc, could play really well. I bet an internet fundraising type gig with full story and associated social media hype could get him enough funds together to try again next year when he is fully healed. He would have the added advantage of the experience he has got in the first 4 months of this year, PLUS he will know what Kurt managed and be able to use it as a target for his schedule.
But I wouldn't think any less of him if he decided to sack off the record completely.
Just a thought.

Good points Tababa. I just dunno if he can mentally get himself psyched up for another bash. Seems like a once in a lifetime type gig.

This is Steve Abraham we're talking about...
Actually as it happens I've been meaning to donate but never got around to it. I should organise that ASAP.

Oh no, just found out about this, I wouldn't be surprised if he'll give it another go sometime
He'll just see this as a good start for the Audax trophy :)
Reckon hes thinking about one-legged setups...
