Yeah, I get that it's about as interesting as the groupset debate. I don't really care either way to be honest - just seems a bit stupid is all.

This is very dangerous. Everyone knows tubulars are faster than clinchers and your frame will actually stretch over time, weakening it. The reverse (clincher front, tub rear) is even more dangerous, as your rear wheel will overtake the front.

Oh yes in my youth I used to do exactly that..... I think I needed around 20 min. Once even fixed two at a go. Not the thimg to do but it is quite doable.

I'm going to buy a spare tub.
Idealy I'd like to give some layers of glue, fold it up, and pack it into my Arundrel bag to be forgotten.
But I cant really work out how to do this without the thing gluing to itself in a manner that would deem it unusable beside the road. Or indeed simply glue itself to the inside of my bag. Am I being thick here?
This looks like it would just glue to itself to me...?

Would gluing then wrapping in cling film once the glues tacky work? That should keep the glue from drying fully if the "beep" touch wood happens?

If I glue my tubs on first thing tomorrow morning will they be ok to ride on the velodrome at 1pm?

Inflate your tub, glue it, then leave it to dry.
Once it's dry, lay it out on the ground with the rubber side down, and both "ends" turned over to allow the tyre to sit this way, each "end" will be turned over like this:
Then roll the tub up so that you are always laying rubber onto the dried glue:
The turns should be calculated to make the tub into a neat bundle that goes under your saddle when completely rolled up:
You can compress this as much as you want as there is no glue to glue contact, it's all rubber on glue, which won't stick.

That's a point, however I am now eating (well, about to eat) pizza.
I'd be gluing the tubs on at ~8am, then riding at 1pm, however I can delay this if it would be stupid.

Pretty much every guide to tub gluing I've ever read makes the point that once glued you should inflate to a high pressure and leave for 24 hours before you ride them to ensure you get a good bond.
It looks like it'll be wet in the morning anyway, which isn't ideal gluing weather.

The joy of cycling, and life, is that you can by and large do whatever the hell you like. If he wants to use tubulars, he'll use tubulars. If you want to use clinchers, use clinchers.
