  • Cheers @tilover, crisis averted.

  • Yep, split stem. Often seen on monocoque ("front loader") cases like the Omega Dynamic and some tonneau cases.

  • ah good, it's actually a great system but a shock when you're not expecting it! glad you've sorted it

  • Just shelled out on the NOS Explorer. Will post pics once it arrives. Really funny thing is I didn't think I'd ever find a Rolex I actually liked.

  • I know what you mean. I've come to like a couple of the models more over the past year or so. But the old version is still the only one I really want, so I'm half heartedly starting the hunt for an early 80s Explorer. I will start in ernest in the back end of the year, but I'm only after ones from 3 particular years... which I think will make it trickier to source.

The ones I've found so far in the UK are quite a bit more than ones on the Continent...

  • There's a gaff along Burlington Arcade where you can pick one from your year of birth. Yes they're bowel-clenchingly expensive, but there are some real beauties to be seen.

I had a gander at some to decide which one I wanted to get the missus for her 30th and then set up all the alerts, bells and whistles on eBay and when one popped up I made the bloke an offer and two days later it arrived. My man at Mappin's gave it the once over, told me it was kosher and I released the cash.

One happy lady. She actually wept.

  • Try Carl at gasgasbones.com. Top man and quality straps.

  • Thanks afaik.

  • Congrats.

Discount from family member fell through, which sucks.

I'll be picking mine up at the end of April.

  • Bigup @tilover, if he is selling any more of his nice watch collection I would defo recommend him as a seller.

  • after 4 years of owning a Casio GX56 (King of G Shock) i've only just realised it has an auto EL function.

  • @radar Nice! mines been going strong for about two years now. good bit of kit

  • Got the Star Chief back. They made a rather shit job of fitting the new bracelet and I think I want another link taken out, but for now I'll just live with it...

  • My colleague took some floorboards up in his house when fitting a boiler, and found what appears after some serious inspection to be a genuine Rolex 15200 34mm Oyster Date. I couldn't take the back off (don't have the right tool) but the model and serial numbers under the lugs are there, the bracelet ends look correct, with the number, as does the deployment clasp. The fonts on the face and the date wheel also stand up to close inspection.

    Lucky sod.

  • Wayhey!

  • You can sometimes unscrew with a rubber ball or using duck (duct) tape btw.

  • nice! stolen maybe if it's under floorboards but the previous owners are obviously long gone so all good, +1 for duct tape or rubber ball
i might go pull up my floorboards tonight :)

  • As before - in HK at the end of April if you want me to look for one there at a better price

  • Excellent! What a find!

  • I think the current plan is see what kind of deal you can get in HK then buy in the UK if it's not a massive difference.

Let's work it out closer to the time...

  • 33 and finally learning to drive - my motivation is to buy myself a driving watch once i've passed (i won't be buying a car)
omega chronostop, or omega speedmaster schumacher springs to mind - anything else?

  • A McQueen Monaco?

    *Edited for more pics

  • ^ Beautiful man bracelet but it's become such a Ted Baker div watch... Was out with one of my mates a while back, not at all interested in watches, and was very surprised to see him sporting a Speedy... I made my mind up that there was no room for one in my life after that... He's a total Ted... Lovely, but a massive Ted...

  • On that^ note I have decided that a 1655 "Steve" from 1976 is the way to go.

    --commences saving--

  • Why stop at Steve?
