anyone using one of the magic track pad's? Worth the money?
I'm currently using a wacom pen and tablet, and have a very old mouse as a backup, but since I've just got an upgrade on my mac pro, which means I can jump from 10.6.9 to Mavericks/Yosemite, was wondering if I should get the trackpad to keep up with the gesture controls that seem to be standard now..Let me know

Fuck track pads. Get a Magic Mouse, you can do all the useful gestures on that and navigate and click without constantly rubbing the tips off your fingers.

For the sake of a £200ish quid I'd get the fast processor and the 512gb ssd. The way the os and software use virtual memory it's good to have a little in reserve. And don't worry about PS performance, look at raw crunching power for video encoding. If the right processor can save even 5 seconds per minute of footage rendered then it will pay for itself. External drives are a faff on location too. Where's the cable? Shit it doesn't connect... etc.

i use the magic trackpad at work, after trying a magic mouse, reverting back to my old 'normal' mouse and being offered the trackpad,
I love it

So that's one all, anyone else?

magic mouse is a fucking PITA though when you keep swiping back on interwebz pages without meaning too

Magic mouse is shit... Modest Mouse are even worse...
Haven't tried the trackpad, I just like a nice two button jobbie with a scroll wheel on it... Call me an old cnut...

I've got the Wacom for most things and I'm super happy with that, so will continue to use that as my main inputting device, just getting apple accessories happy since I've got me new/2nd hand Mac...

A vote here for the Magic Mouse - they are great

I use a nice gaming mouse here, with the track pad on the side for gesture controls and the odd occasional times where it feels better than a mouse. It's a nice supplement to have.

I have, last time when I went, I told them they have wasted enough of my time and I need a device that works and it's their responsibity to ensure that... didn't quite work... more shockingly, I discovered that the apple care that I have paid for has never been activated to cover my Mac.

Why not just get the Wacom tablet that has a trackpad in it? Best of both worlds then.

^ I've got a wacom with touch, i think it's terrible at best. It seems to take some fondling for it to even realise it's supposed to do anything, then when it finally kicks in the resolution seems terrible, it's all a bit jittery.
I really rate the magic mouse, think it's by far the best mouse I've used.

From using a macbook for the last 4/5 years, I'm actually more comfortable using a trackpad then a mouse. My experience with the magic mouse was a bit iffy at first. Because is is so flat, you don't really grip it, your hand kind of just perches on top. After a while you get used to it. Haven't tried the large trackpad but if it is similar to that of the MacBooks then I'm sure it would be great.

Really? No problems with mine. Well I say no problems, there was about six months I stopped using it due to wacom and osx not playing nice making it completely unusable. Though they've finally got their act together and updated the drivers and all good now.

Though I bought a mouse to play HL2, so now on a long session I swtich between mouse, pen and trackpad. Keeps the RSI at bay...

^^what is it with Mac and their mice? They're so uncomfortable to use for anything other than light use, totally form over function. I 'got used'to the old hockey puck iMac mouse (97' ish) years ago, only because I had to at the time. I have sold every mouse that came with my Macs since then. I do quite fancy the track pad though.

^ What do you use instead?
That hockey puck was shit

I use a Logitech M705, but wired rather than wireless, cheap and super comfortable all day. I am mainly drawing using various CAD programmes, so the Mac mouse is out.
The hockey puck suited the design of the iMac at the time I guess, but I agree, it was complete shit.

I don't know what you're all doing wrong. I use my Magic Mouse for design work all day and it's fine. The gesture controls work great when you get used to them and the trackpad on my macbook makes a good biscuit tray, so the crumbs don't go all over the keyboard.

I have a 2010/11 MBA 11" (can't recall exactly- Amey can you?), would £200 be fair for sells? It's in good condition.
I was using Apple TV this weekend and have to say I found it really good, so much so that I've just bought one. The mirroring function is much better than on a Chromecast.
