  • My biggest problem with this is why he drove to a place to ride his bike in the first place.

Surely any bike being ridden on the less than perfect park road can be ridden to the park.

  • Depends. How many Herne Hillers drive there? Location Location Location innit. I ride ro park, but live not 20 mins away. If you have a car and live out of town why not? People drive to club events right? As for carrying to road...nonce. Unless beach size gravel?

  • I carry my bike Down the road every morning, often getting weird looks. But its a fecking 20% descent. If I just jumped on my fixie skidder and went for it, I'd end myself in the fence at the bottom.

I know a few People that will drive to a location to ride. Purely because the ride there is a little too long to be a warm up. Hence they might get a little less out of the intervals they intend to do. I cant relate to that at all though. Time spent packing the car -driving - unpacking the car each way. Is free time spent not riding. Does not compute.

  • Amazing how many bad/close overtakes in RP are done by people with expensive bikes in/on the back of their cars.

I carried a bike on half a lap of Richmond Park the other week. I was riding another bike at the time though so that probably doesn't count.

  • That's another thing, people carrying bikes that have punctures. Just bloody wheel them.

  • rims man, rims

  • Really? It kinda wrecks the tyres doesn't it?

  • I rode my bike, With a totally flat rear, 4km home last week.

    Everything looks fine.

Did you ascend Dark hill whilst carry the other bike?

  • ^^ just assumed repeatedly folding and squishing tyre between rim and road wouldn't be good for it and might even crack or cut (clinchers).

  • To be honest I didnt care at the time. I've grown to hate road clinchers*. Half of me figured if I ride home I'll screw the rims and then have to buy some lovely tubulars.

(* I get pinch flats and rim blow offs 10x more than punctures YMMV)

  • For the #onelesscar advocates.
The only two times I cycled in Richmond Park were when I took my girlfriend there for a ride. I just thought it would have be a nice place where to take her.
Coming from the other side of the city, would mean taking her through the worst roads of the planet, and she does not have the same experience that I have. It would just mean nightmares for her (and me).
But if you say I can easily not take her to Richmond anymore so I can cycle there all by myself and not upset anyone because I drove a damned car. ;)

  • There's a risk of that, but as long the bike isn't heavy.*

*have to walk 6 miles home because I'm stupid enough to not have puncture repair kit and pump.

  • Did you ascend Dark hill whilst carry the other bike?

No, Ham Gate to Roehampton Gate via White Lodge, but then I did climb up to Putney Heath via Danebury Avenue. But Dark Hill wouldn't have been any more of a problem than it usually is.

(It was a child's bike, still 6kg+, strapped to a large rucksack).

  • I ended up carrying my CX bike yesterday when I was up epping forest, this was due to a shit ton of council 4x4's and logging lorries churning up the trail's so bad it was even hard to walk on..

I even witnessed a small women carrying her horse, bonkers stuff

  • there's a lot of heroin around epping forest

  • rim blow offs

    Filth

  • I wouldn't be caught dead driving to Richmond Park but always carry my bike through the small section of unsealed car park between the road and cafĂ© near Roehampton gate. There are fucking HUGE boulders in that car park. Don't want to ruin my nice spendy tyres.

  • Move 60 miles South, ride on peaceful country lanes, sorted!

    amen.

  • I ride ro park, but live not 20 mins away.

    What a waste of space.

  • I mean your car.

  • Maybe.

  • I'd say over half of my punctures are pinch flats. Not running too low pressure, just hitting things. I might go back to tubs for summer riding.
