E3 Harelbeke this week - probably a good indicator.
Not writing him off. I'm a massive fan, but just thought it surprising he couldn't make a move at MSR.

In the latest issue of Rouleur, there is a long interview with Johan Museeuw who makes the point that Roubaix requires less explosivity than Flanders, so as you age your chances in the former diminish faster than the latter.
I'd think the same applies to MSR.

Encouraging for Bradley.

I think Cancellara is still favorite for Flanders and Roubaix.
It is difficult for Cancellara to win MSR. It is very hard for him to drop everyone with an attack on the Poggio and runs the risk of taking someone to the line (Gerrans in 2011), but if he sits in he doesn't have much chance of winning the sprint (the last three editions). I wouldn't read too much into him missing the podium.

Yeah.. you just need to be able to throw down between 550-800w on all the cobbled sections to make the selection. I guess at Flanders you need to be able to put out 1000w+ repeatedly to stay in touch on the climbs.
Fwiw - while I can't see Cancellara winning any more monuments, you can guarantee he'll be in the mix. I would like it if he proved me wrong though.

erm, Oleg is getting a little impatient for wins
(LOL @ Google translate btw "Russian wack and live Oleg Tinkov.")

• #1158
Yeah I enjoyed that translation.
Crazy Oleg be crazy.

Fab's best chance would have been to have been in the position to follow Oss's attack like Geraint. Had the three of them got away hypothetically it may have stuck. He didn't attack there or the Poggio, he followed, so either he lacked ambition or genuinely believed he had a chance in sprint with whatever selection remained.
Btw when I say lacked ambition I meant he was using it for preperation for the cobbles rather than an all or nothing tilt for the win. Opportunistic riding, because MSR is a bit of a lottery.

What's an Italian storlob?

Who'd have thought it?
Poor Sagan, it'll be back to Metallica full blast over race radio again.

More coherent take on CyclingTips.

It's hard to feel sorry for Sagan if Oleg makes his life a misery. He knew who was going to be signing the enormous cheques. Rather like Nibali at Astana. Riis may be a liar and a cheat but he seems to treat his riders with respect. God knows what it will be like for them if he has to leave.

My sympathy for Sagan lasted all of a nano-second, Will.
Tinkoff (the team) are, on the whole, a shower of cunts so anything that sees them fuck up due to internecine warfare is welcomed.
I liked Brian Holm's take on it on Twitter; "Yeah ,, Teambuilding on Kilimanjaro"

Farce in Catalunya. Peloton told break was at six minutes when in fact it was at 13.

I hope the CCC rider on their garish Geurciottis takes it. I want a jersey

Indeed - they look like the local cycle club has jumped on the peloton.
Good for them!

Do teams rely on the times given by organizers? Broadcasters often don't even do that.

also: "Katusha directeur sportif Dmitry Konyshev was confused with Orica's reluctance to help chase the trio after they pulled back the first breakaway. "We were happy to have Vorobyev in the original break and really did not understand why Orica-GreenEdge chased so hard to bring them back, especially when they did not chase at all when the next three went away. In general there were many strange team tactics in play today," Konyshev said."
Duh. Anyway, should make an interesting race for the next few days though. -

not about money or results, they say. what could it be?
Tinkoff Saxo statement on Bjarne Riis:
“Following the rumors and speculations published by many Danish media first and then by international cycling media later last night, Tinkoff Saxo would like to clarify that Bjarne Riis is not being actively involved in the team’s activities since last Sunday. However, he was not suspended of his active role because of lack of results nor for financial issues. The team management has full confidence in the technical and performance team, in all the riders and staff members and is currently working to establish the best way forward in the racing season. No decisions have been taken and any formal and final decision on any team member – if taken – shall be communicated at the appropriate time. Until then there will be no further comments on this matter."

Any channel showing Dwars door Vlaanderen live today or shall I just count on steephill?
Let's wait until after Roubaix before we write him off.
