The fabric would be a bit water resistant, but there are two large vents/holes by the arch of the foot, so water will get in there sooner than you expect.
Despite the worries about the build quality of DZR in general, your best bet for better water resistance would be the DZR H2O's which I had for a little while and felt fairly robust. They do cost £135 though.

Also started using the giro rumbles VR. prefect on/off bike shoe for me having previously had DZR's... comfy fit, very walkable. laces... theres an extra hole on the outside of the shoe, lace through it, do up to the side and poke down into the shoe... no problems used for delivery job 8hrs+ cycling throughout the day. the glue/gum look great to me :)
power wise, big step down from my shimano M088's which cost roughly the same cash. the same gear feels like significantly harder work. that said, wouldn't hesitate to buy again.

Isn't really a shoe thread i don't think, so insoles anyone? Anyone use them and recommend them? I bought a pair of SIDI dominators, older pair and the soles are used quite heavily, thinking of replacing them with some new ones, is there any recommendations?

V happy with my giro rumbles in blue. Comfy for walking in and fine on the bike. Though the mesh makes them a little draughty on cold winters nights I think they will be my default summer commuting shoe.

2014 Giro Republics are selling for £90 at the mo as the 2015 models land.
Try Soho Cycles, London Bicycle Workshop on Clerkenwell Rd.
Just got some yesterday - seem to be light, stiff and all day office wearable so far.

Not exactly casual, but I reckon these wouldn't be out of place for everyday riding. Especially with the "weatherproof toe box"

I need some new DZRs, but can only find the wrong sizes on Always Riding. Any suggestions?

Also considering a pair of Giro Republics. Anyone have any experience with them?
-
• #1038
Enjoying my Giro Republics. Good and stiff for riding. Unobtrusive to wear all day - if a bit hot.
Walking is ok in them.
They ride nicer are lighter and are better quality than my DZRs
They walk better and look less 'cycley' than my Sidis
They are more weather proof and protective than my Vittorias
They are less 'outdoors' than either pair of Shimano MTB shoes I own.
If I had to only have one pair it would probably be the Giros.

How many feet do you have?

Just bought some giro chamber mids. So far I'm more than happy. Comfy on and off the bike and look pretty good too. Build quality seams excellent.

Are casual shoes any good as a beginner shoe? How would a pair of Giro republics compare to say standard Shimano or dhb mtb shoes ?
-
• #1042
Any Mtb shoe will do. Find one you like the look of and that fits you.

anyone tried the giro VR90's? have read reviews, supposed to be good jadajada but would like hear from a forumenger.

I have been wearing and walking only cheap £25 super sale Shimano SPDs for the last couple of years, they are fine as long as you do intend to run a marathon in them. I have had the likes of Chrome and DZR etc, I still prefer MTB shoes, I find the casual shoes are not that comfy to walk on and yet not excellent to clip on and off. But this is just my personal opinion.

Although if you're just trying clipless and not sure if you'll stay with it, MTB shoes are generally a fair bit cheaper than casual shoes.

Hey,
I have DZR Minnas and run shimanos m520. I'm thinking upgrading to a600 and have a question whether they are compatible.
Thnx!

Has anyone tried the Shimano MT54? Looking for touring shoes that I can walk around in more comfortably than my Dominators.

Quite like it. High-vis without being yellow. Simple. Not too offensive. See many trainers which look worse.

Didn't even know they existed!
Give 'em a go and tell us how they do..
How water resistant are the hardcourts? They look like they would be a little, but can't seem to find any opinions online. Fancy something that'll see me through winter without having to go full-on Alpineduro.
