  • Spacers need to stick around until I work out how my back is doing, and seatpost will probably be replaced soon, but you're both totally right.

  • Just the stock one that came with it... expander bung, top-cap and bolt weigh 50g all in. I'll definitely look at that J&L one, thank you!

@miro_o almost definitely. 28 pages in and so far I've purchased... some cables.

  • I think they are more prone to asplode due to carbon rims not dissipating heat well

Alpine descents and excessive heat ...

  • Sorry .. Obviously ditching the spacers completely is the lightest option. But what I meant was what do they weigh? A single Chris King 25mm spacer is 21g roughly. A complete set (50mm) of BBB Ultraspace headset spacers is roughly 13g .. Just details. But the small details add up and are sometimes cheap.

  • all the spacers there are 50g in total, carbon fibre. Hopefully I can loose a couple (plus steerer) in a few weeks, then those BBB ones sound appealing... thanks!

  • have shit loads of carbon spacers if you're looking for a specific height once chopped.
and likely this post used if you're after a carbon one, would go well with the grey camo: http://www.fullspeedahead.com/products/road/sl-k-sbs-sb-20/#

  • Shout me if you want a j&l one, I've got one i don't need, £5posted if you want.

And I know everyone rips on them but a spidering will drop a few grams and have a look at other saddles, could find your on a 250gram version when there's one that's 150

  • Just get the stack above the stem cut down, and leave it as it is.

  • And if you are using the Cannondale expander, install it as per the instructions...

  • i'm after an expander that doesn't add any stack to the steerer...
does it have a stopper that sits on the top of the steerer (to stop it sliding down)?

  • BTW, just notice that the geometry of the Bowman Pilgrims seemed to fit you like a glove.

52cm is tiny bit shorter in reach with a little more stack, idea for a winter bike.

  • I know the type your talking about, na the best way to compare in that respect would be a star nut. It works by expanding using an 8mm hex and in that hex hole goes the standard m6 bolt from the top cap

  • are there even any expanders that don't have have a lip on top? The Deda one only adds about 1mm.

  • Actually it looks like it's a Hope Head Doctor you need.

  • is this the anti thread?

  • @edscoble that looks great! I think that would make a perfect winter bike - bit of road, bit of cross. Nice find. Thanks Ed!

@noBlakes your J&L one would be amazing, thanks! PM incoming.

RE: Expander chat - I've actually found the Cannondale expander really decent and easy to use. The top cap is so low profile as to be flat. Would be surprised if it's thicker than 2mm.

    @amey take a hike, pal!

Bike is now completely cabled and bartaped, thanks to @spotter for the Yokozuna outer and @SKULLS for getting the gears all set up.

Bike is bang on 7.2kg, including pedals, cages, Garmin mount, Ass saver and exposure light bracket. Now I just have to ride it, which unfortunately is looking like Thursday.

  • Went for a couple of regents laps last night. My back is worse than it has ever been before. Didn't manage 6k before I was in agony.

Back to the drawing board / physiotherapist.

so so tired of this bullshit

  • :(

  • Is that not possibly just because its your first time back on the bike in 6 months?

  • Probably annoyingly far away for you, but everyone I know who has gone here has nothing but good things to say: http://www.backontrackphysio.co.uk/

  • 1 hour of physio-approved stretching a day for the last year and a half, including the 4 months I've been sans-bike.

If it's slow progress, it's glacially slow.

@Dammit thanks for the recommend. I'm going to go back to the physio I've been seeing (who I really like, and is Scherrit's go-to) but might consider other opinions...

  • Shit News about the back. Hope a solution can be found.

Also I saw the bike pic from the last page. And sorry. But this is not going to be my favourate episode of 'porn try-outs'........

  • cough cough ripoff

  • After going to see my physio again I've been riding a bit more. Managed to rattle out 60k without pain today which is probably more than I've done in 6 months. Trying out a Romin which I'm enjoying, feels a lot better to sit in to a saddle rather than on my old SLR.
