  • Its the La Vie Claire colours.

Anyway I've shared the ideas bit rychtarski but he's not feeling it - sounds like I'm too adventurous. He suggests matt paint is hard, gloss stronger, and the angled detail is hard to do.

I'm considering keeping it simple with a really dark charcoal-ish grey, gloss, with a colour detail on the lettering.

  • That sounds good, if you want to add later you could also vinyl/paint the inner stays like on a Parralax

  • I'm still digging the idea of a sparkle clearcoat

  • This is the same Rychtarski right?

  • But covering the whole of the inside of the stays and inside of the forks

Someone on the forum did it with a china carbon frame, 5th floor colors I think

  • I am a big fan of the feather racing paint scheme. Simple but with some details. But to do somethinf similar without copying it...

  • And to me feather racing just looks like an adaptation of the old Rapha condor paint

  • Don't go bright and mat. It's impossible to keep anything close to clean.

  • Nice one that Corsa SLX.

  • This in Schwarz Rot Gold?

  • Yup, same builder.

To be fair he's not said the paint idea is impossible, just that it's 'hard' and that the matt will not be as resilient as gloss.

It's possible that the fancy paint versions you've posted were outsourced for finishing. It's also possible that I've been quoted a price for the frame+paint and he's implying I should keep it simple to avoid a big hike in price and lead time. I'm assuming that's it.

  • So this is what I've asked for. Simple, one colour: RAL 7021 ('black grey'), gloss finish, with outline lettering on the downtube in a fluro yellow, similar to the colour used for lettering on @psee's latest.

Actually, @psee, if you wouldn't mind sharing the RAL codes for your bike (main colour and letters) I would be interested, as it looks gorgeous. And I trust you don't mind me taking the influence.

  • ...if this is going to look massively nodder-ish then now's a good time to say!

  • You're only going to have one of these built right? Why compromise on paint? I'd be going all out... Up to you really

  • Agreed, but I'm fairly easy-going on paint (which is why I've found it so hard to make a decision). I'd like to balance nice-ness against something that will last a few years without me going off it.

Paint is a consumable anyway, right?

  • The other way of looking at it is, if I want super fancy paint, I can get it done by a paint shop here in the UK and tap into their expertise.

  • Looks great…but then again I may be biased with regards to that colour scheme. I'd echo the other and say matte is impossible to keep clean, gloss is definitely the way to go,

  • @rogan AFAIK have this in mind when he got his Talbot, he choose a neat black paintjob with a outlandish paint in the near future if he choose to.

  • Not wishing to be a twat but are you happy with where the cable stops are? I thought you wanted them a little higher up?

  • Fucking twat.

  • Yup agreed and @edscoble yeah - I've (finally!) decided gloss grey/black (real 7021 if I remember correctly) with the DT lettering in a light grey. Painting is underway...

  • I wondered that too at first, hence asking for a closer pic, but they look fine in the detail photo so I decided to go with it.

  • My Genesis Volare cable stops is in the exact same position as your, routing the housing isn't a problem, and it's still easy to adjust the derailleur from there while cycling.
