^Can second that. Rode a 1Z1 through winter on the beater. Only cleaned once, no rusts given.

Or switch back wheel around and use bolt on..
I think it's doable definitely and could work without being such a compromise. -
• #67079
Way too much hassle though. You'd end up leaving it in one configuration and not changing it.
-
• #67080
Normal chain. I've found the 1Z1, thanks :)

• #67081
If you wax a chain do you need to do it from new? Aka, how well do I need to clean my current chain before emersion?
-
• #67082
Best to just degrease the chain and oil it instead, wax collect dirt and grim easily.
-
• #67083
It's for track, but sometimes I ride to/from too.

• #67084
lol what? you've got them the wrong way round...

Aka, how well do I need to clean my current chain before emersion?
The cleaner it is, the better. If it's new, you know the only thing you have to remove is factory grease. On a used chain, you're trying to get out every lube you've ever added plus a load of powdered metal/metal oxides from the rest of the drive train and a choice selection of whatever the local roads are made from made sticky with nan0-particles of diesel soot and rubber.

• #67086
Soooo I'll wait until I change chains, then.
-
• #67087
You oil then degrease the chain?
-
• #67088
Potentially, I mean you wouldn't want to be doing it every weekend with all the cabling etc (although you could design it to be minimum hassle) but I don't think a functional multi application frame is impossible. Swap out dropouts and spare forks mean you could have a fair degree of adjustability on the geo and the capability for racks/guards etc
Would be an interesting project. Expensive though. I had been day dreaming about an alternative setup for my Argos, 1x6 for instance with a DT shifter, not necessary at the moment but potentially in the future.

May I interested you in the notion of riding a fixed wheel bicycle? the amazing thing about it is the simplicity.
-
• #67092
Interesting but doesn't really fit my schedule and I'm not sure how happy they'd be with me doing it solo.

I'm off to Portland, Oregon. Has anyone got experience of road bike hire there?
Edit: I hired a bike from Veloce Bicycles on SE Hawthorne Street. Great service, good price, nice shop. Recommended if you're in the area.
Also, Portland has some great riding.

Yup this is it,
I'm going to leave it as an SSCX bike for ages then add gears when I can afford.
I don't plan to be changing it all the time but you guys see how much I change shit just on my track bikes, I like having options.
Say I wanna do a little tour or something, I'm not gonna want to build a comepeltely new bike for a few weeks riding.

How wrong would it be to post a picture of a sofa to this thread?
-
• #67097
Quite wrong but also a bit lulz, fine of it wasn't in the ladies section.
-
• #67098
But you got round all that by posting it here, you sly bitch.

I don't think it's actual porn casting. Porn usually pays more than minimum wage.

Best replacement eccentric bottom bracket option for a Haro Mary that has knackered threads under the shell that hold the bolts which secure the existing EBB?
Only one of the holes will take a bolt/grub screw and I think the EBB is so mangled that it never seems to stay secure. It clicks and creaks and has loosened itself from time to time. Don't really want to see about having the frame re-drilled/helicoiled or having the BB shell replaced.
What sort of chain? For single speed, Wippermann 1Z1 or 7Z1. For derailleur use, not so much. KMC ZnXRB for n-speed derailleurs are only just outside your price range.
