  • ^ You'll regret the obvious hangover too...

  • I have more bikes* than I can afford to or have space to keep but I'm trying to find a way to have 2 more before June :/

*1 hasn't been ridden properly since the summer.

  • I have two bikes I haven't ridden for more than 4 years.

Summer will be a good time to sell them (I've said this for the last 4 summers).

  • I had a small crash a while ago, and was worried about my rear hub, which had a little play in it, and my brakes were rubbing. Took it to brixton cycles this morning to discover I had simply failed to put the wheel back in the dropouts properly after fixing a punture in a hurry.

  • Convinced myself that the fixed was fucked so had been riding the road bike for a few months. The roadie is now fucked too and needs a desperate service so pulled out the fixed to take a look last night. Turns out I just needed to replace the tyre I had bought 3 months ago, everything else was fine. Lazy twat. Endured winter without mudguards for no reason.

  • I planning n-1, maybe n-2.

Technically it's (n+1)-1-2 with a possible +1 on the end.

Not having ridden two of my bikes for 4 years means it is time they go.

  • I took my bike apart to put a new transmission groupset on.

Now that its in pieces I'm about to strip down the hubs to regrease the cones with copper grease.

I have never done any of this before, I could fuck up my bike bigtime but it's so much fun!

  • Not sure copper grease is the best for bearings.

  • Why? It's grease with a high temperature melting point and I have a big tub of it.

Is there any difference to an expensive tube of Bikeo Wonder Cone Grease? Serious question. @edscoble

  • Ah, the power of Google says that copper grease is not suitable after all, so off to the local motor factor to get a tub of Castrol multipurpose instead.

  • Tester approved™ is any molybdenum disulphide grease.

  • Copper grease is an anti-sieze compound for non-moving interfaces.

  • Ta, I'll ask for that.

  • 500g tub of molly for £6 at local shop. Cones regreased, easier than I thought it would be.

  • You must introduce me to your dealer.

  • Triple-Sod at £3 a pill too!

  • Discount for mandrills?

  • @Mr_Sworld @alkali Very good

  • I just bought another frame. And the hob is still not sold, Gazelle may take a while to sell too.

We need Lfgss bikaholics anonymous :):)

  • Because I had two riding companions back out yesterday, I wussed out of a solo 30 miles today and stayed in for a proxy ride by watching some pros do it properly. I did some bike work, which extended to changing some bar finishing tape from red to black.

Then I spend considerable time researching how I would build my ideal fixed TT bike. I've never done a TT or ridden fixed in my life.

    Then I wrote this post.

A crywank, a Rustler's burger then bed, I think. This Sunday's gone nowhere.

  • Ooh what did you get?

  • 14bikeCo Lee Cooper built :)

Family member of my Thorn XTC also made by him. So now the Gazelle frame needs a good home as I also have the Eddy Balk Merckx...and no garage.

  • Last night riding home from a ride in the chilterns thought i was losing pressure in my rear tyre as was feeling a bit bumpy back there, did the regulation spread the knees whilst freewheeling and have a look for the bulge below the rim on the road but was a bit dark so had a closer look, head down to bars almost.
As i lifted my head realised i was veering for the curb at some speed. Off balance attempting and failing miserably to correct myself I had no choice to jump ship and let bike fly after ejecting my feet from the cages.
Quite late at night, no witnesses, Could've been worse!
No harm came to bike or self, we just had an embarrassed chuckle between ourselves (gets lonely in the hills) and headed home.

  • A few minutes into this morning's ride, I notice that the Garmin isn't displaying power or cadence.

Grrr, blooby power2max, it's almost new how dare it be broken, exquisite German engineering my hairy arse, etc. etc. Also, no cadence ? I understand that cadence data from the power meter takes priority over that from a speed/cadence sensor, but surely it should fall back to my GSC10 if the power meter isn't transmitting ? Garmin, what a bunch of cowboys, etc, etc.

Oh, hang on, power2max and GSC10 are being ignored because wrong bike profile on Garmin. I am officially a twat.

  • Three months ago when I broke my hip, I assured my mother I wouldn't ride again until I put some weight on and my bones were less osteoporotic.

Neither has happened yet, but I've been given the 'all clear' from the ortho dept, so I did go for a teeny weeny spin today (<3 miles) to cheer myself up and stave off my mounting road fear (I now appreciate how terrifying and insane cycling must seem to non-cyclists who follow the news or hear about those creepy 'Die In' protests).

    Oh boy, did it work.

    :)
