Because I have a bunch of them already and they work well.

I've dabbled in the world of wired SRM and it sucked but P2M addresses those issues so I'm now dabbling in the world of P2M. I've always said if I moved to crank power I'd use P2M. I probably won't bother on the race bike because I have new cranks and buying another set along with disc wheel = £000s.

Also my Powertap on the old Kinesis wasn't an ANT+ one.

I've ended up with a real mixture, three Powertap G3's - one MTB, one Track and one Road.

The Road one was a replacement for an older one (SL+) that had a torque tube failure, apart from that the MTB one went from "full" to "flat" battery in the length of one ride, which was annoying, but they are largely reliable.

I've also got an SRM and a P2M type-S, the SRM was a massive PITA until I sent it back, now it's absolutely rock solid.

The P2M has never put a foot wrong - but then I've only done a couple of hundred miles on it so far, the SRM has had thousands as has the Track Powertap.

I'll have that MTB Disc G3 when you're done with it, ta.

The Stages is the only one I've had non-trivial problems with.

Yep. My FTP is woeful, but at least I have 13 power meters which can all confirm how woeful it is. And a Stages, which just chews through batteries.

It occurred to me on Saturday morning, as I ran around Dulwich Park, that I have never actually done a threshold effort on the turbo- threshold as in unable to swallow spit as the time taken to so do would prevent a vital breath from being taken, which is the state I am in when running fast.

They're both rather nice. Like the Power2Maxes, they just work. One threw a bit of a wobbly once, which was resolved simply by changing the battery. Other than that, all good, despite some very wet rides. I've no way of validating the numbers, but they seem broadly consistent with the data from the other devices.

New PowerTap product images seem like they should have been released on 1^st April, not 16^th March.

Could be that I lack the mental toughness to make myself suffer on the turbo to the degree that I will make myself suffer in a race. Where can I buy some mental toughness?

I don't think that's abnormal. A lot of people can do more in a race than they ever do in training.

It's impossible to inflict proper suffering on the turbo.

Dunno, I suffer pretty badly every time I get on. Number is still worth 10 watts though.

The pedals are pretty sinful, but is the crank not in fact a 'power meter spider' that fits to compact cranks, with standard rings? (Or they may actually be compact rings too). It looks like it rotated the rings' bolt tabs 36 degrees with respect to the cranks bolt tabs.

If so it may well be the budget crank based option the market is looking for.
