Appears that he just stayed the night at a house all of 2 minutes away from my parents. Shame not to have known that before hand - I'd have got them to go and put up some bunting.

I've done a spreadsheet with a few more stats than I've found elsewhere - http://goo.gl/RBHtiS
Comparing on days since they each started, rather than the date, as that is in some ways more informative.
Let me know if you spot any mistakes, or if you'd like me to try and work out another stat to add to it.

Does anyone have any idea when Steve's birthday is? Would be nice to celebrate it somehow. Try and co-ordinate a mid-ride cake delivery!

Long, long way to go yet..

Also, riding in Florida in the summer? Given the choice between Milton Keynes and Miami in August, I'd take MK every time.

The poor sods :-)

Indeed - wet in Florida yesterday and Tarzan did 170 miles. Steve rode 22o miles into the north. But both amazing, and with faster averages than I can manage for a couple of hours!

Florida is more than Miami. I'd take Florida over MK.

As discussed earlier in this thread, Tarzan can not take away Steve's crowning of the prize, but 8 days after Steves crowning he can be the new keeper.
And Steve is on track to beat a record that hasn't been broken in 76 years, while Tarzan stands to break a record that will be 8 days old.

Has this been discussed in here? If so, I think it wrong?
The record is for any continuous year, and not a calendar year. As @hms's post shows, Tommy beat the previous record at the end of October and IIRC this was heralded in the press as the moment the record was broken. He then carried on for the rest of the year to set the current mark of 75,065 miles, but the record has been Tommy's since the moment he passed the previous mark.
As with this record... surely it will be broken the moment that the first rider surpasses 75,065miles. If Tarzan hits that number before Steve does, then Steve will never hold the record, unless he manages to overtake Tarzan again.

I think Tarzan has moved west. His Facebook says he is now in Arkansas for some endless meandering. Murica is a big place and his RV assistance means he can relocate to the most pleasant climate as he needs.

thats a good point actually. It is a race to 75k

Gah.

This was also my reading of things.

If that's the case then I could start now and beat them both... it's only a ~12,000mi head start... ;)

twenty notes says you don't

I'll not take that bet.
I've already said I'd need big dorra to do anything like this. I'm not going to sacrifice my job/home life to get a record. Something like this you really have to WANT.

almost as much as i want that first beer of the weekend, come on 5 o'clock!

I have a tactically stowed Punk IPA in the fridge.

Or not be that bothered about your job/home life.
I get shit if I go out for more than 2 hours at a time, a 24 would probably see me divorced. :(

Bikes before bitches in my world... oh hi darling... oh nothing.. just telling people online how wonderful you are... no you don't need to see this... let me shut this down and make you a nice dinner... there...
