I have never found this. Maybe I haven't ridden as far or for as long as you are relating to, but when I've done 3,4 or 5 day rides of 100+ miles a day eating remains an absolute pleasure and each excessive (but justified because fueling) meal becomes a highlight. And pudding. Lots of pudding.

For me I think it's more of an effort thing than a duration thing. Eating is the last thing I want to do after an IM or an ultra, but I'd expect to be ravenous after a long steady ride. I even find it difficult to force much dinner down after an evening 10mile tt.

Aye, I'm definitely talking about audax pace rather than TT or IM.

I enjoy non-intensive multi-day rides (Audax, etc) purely because I can fill myself with food at almost every opportunity. Never had a problem with it.

Riding faster, you're taking away blood supply from the stomach for the legs so everything becomes harder to digest.

My experiences come from trips longer than a week. I get to the point where I know I need to eat, but am so fed up with just shovelling it in that, mentally, it gets tough.
I've no idea how Steve can keep going day after day after day. Mentally he must be very, very tough.

This makes sense.

Are you pushing/going very quickly? Intrigued by this, I've done up to 6 days of 100+ miles per day and never noticed any loss of appetite. Doing a circuitous 9-10 day LEJOG this year which will be comfortably 100+ a day and the eating was one of the things I was most looking forward to. And the beer, obviously. Got to wash it all down with something... hope I don't suffer this.

For some of us it's easier to keep eating than stop eating. :)

As well as the speed you're maintaining it depends on what you're eating. Some stuff is more palatable, some stuff is easier to digest and some stuff is horrible and sits around a long while and then each person has their own ideas about which food/drink fits into which category.

His mileage is climbing!

Spring is bringing a surge of vigour, ed!
This is good as (if taken as a linear accumulation) he needs to do 219.2 mi per day to attain 80k miles (currently 1,997.1 mi adrift...)

Is Steve an alien? He comes with peace at my mind.

I tend to move to grazing as the days Mount up. Which is great if Your just hanging around a flat full of knackered cyclist for hours on end. Not so great if you're a time crunched record attempter I Guess.

Can someone clever do a calculation to figure out how far off Tarzan would be if he'd also had to do all the elevation gain Steve has done? Probably impossible to accurately gauge. Its just kinda disappointing that Tarzan will likely overtake Steve soon and (if form continues) beat him overall. But it must be so much easier rolling around the sunny flat lands of Flordia compared to miserable cold rolling hills of England. Not that I'm suggesting either is easy.
Also does anyone know why Tommy had a day off on 28/10? Injury?

A - I don't care about tarzan as he's not doing the same course under the same conditions
B - Hypoteneuse = sqrt (horiz distance sqr + gain sqr). I'm enjoying the coffee and cake at the new Gloucester services so not inclined to computate..
C - Tommy had his lithium ion drive pack replaced on 28/10

It's apples and pears isn't it. Both mega undertakings, but not the same. I like that Steve's route is continuous and he starts in the morning from where he finished, and that he's doing it all on a bicycle.

I wouldnt be so quick to rule out Steve. I think hes got more in his locker and will grind it out. I think Kurt is more prone to accident or injury. I think Steve will lay some (even more) serious miles down in the summer and then we will see.
