That's true, I bought a vehicle recently and although I'd dragged my dad along to drive it home (he was covered on his policy) I needed the dealer to pop to post office to tax it using his insurance. When you sell a vehicle now the tax automatically ceases to be and is refunded to the previous owner, no such thing as 'one years tax and mot' anymore.
often you can pay the garage to tax it for you. then you just need to be insured.
