I just foiled a bike thief in the act of pliering his way through a cable lock. Flagged down a passing Policeman(luck!),and pointed out what was happening. He sprinted over to the thief, and the guy was in cuffs within 3 mins.If you are missing an extremely green Viking road bike at Clapham North tube get in touch. Police have my details.

Good day all round, you foil a theft, copper gets an easy arrest, someone gets to keep their bike.
Only downer is for the thieving scrote and he doesn't count.

Hi all, new here. Regretfully, joined up to see if anyone has spotted my Surly Steamroller - nicked last week from Clarence Road in Clapton. Cream frame with grey taped dropbars, crudcatcher guards and a black michie caliper front brake.
Thanks!

People should lock their bikes up when indoors.
I know that sucks but it would stop a third of the thefts reported here. -

Morning stakeout on Leyton High Road?

maybe this is the wrong place for this, but as a newcomer to the city I'm starting to get the fear about leaving my bike locked up outside in what I consider to be well-populated 'safe' areas. how are all these bikes being stolen? are they well locked, and if so what are thieves using to get them loose?

bolt croppers, car jacks, hacksaws, angle grinders, skeleton keys, the cover of darkness, cycle helmets (so as to 'blend in'), the list goes on.
You'll never stop a determined thief, but the less attractive / more cumbersome to steal that you can make your bike, the better.
Stolen from my bike earlier this afternoon at Bloomsbury Square Gardens after a morning ride:
Nitto S65 seat post (26.8mm)
Cambium Saddle
Kashimax Rain Tail.
Bastards.
Chances of this lot showing up at Brick Lane tomorrow?
