you might need an additional spacer? if the lock nut is tightened all the way, but the headset isn't tight then it's likely you do
-
• #100003
So if I get some spacers in the space where the thread is showing, I'll be able to push the top race down that last bit using the locknut?
-
• #100004
yes

I'll be able to push the top race down that last bit using the locknut?
so long as you're pushing it onto a threaded part of the fork!

came with the secondhand hubs, not noticing it much :)
-
• #100011
That's what I thought. It's as far onto the threaded part as it will go.
So am I looking at getting the forks thread extended further down the steerer? I guess it might be worth contacting the guy who sold me it and asking him

@Tychom @dicki managed to find a short M5 bolt to use in this lovely stem's bar clamp...Dropped the original one through the floorboards facepalm
IIRC i traded a Ti post for it with @TM a while back, a bit too noodly for the 44cm drops on the Somec, but stiff enough for the narrower risers and pootling round town...
So yeah, two cockpit options are a 26mm Fondriest stem shimmed with 25.4mm risers or 26.4mm panto 2A with 26.4mm drops.

Is Nitto Technomic the best tall quill stem for the dough? Velo-orange make one but $$$$.
£38 seems fairly reasonable for the former, but ideally looking for a second hand one for cheaps.

Can I get some advice on some spd/flat pedals please?
I've been looking at the vavert ones:
http://www.evanscycles.com/products/vavert/combination-pedals-ec045532which at 392g are much lighter than any shimano ones. They are also cheaper.
Is there any reason I should steer clear of them?

So forks...
Other than weight, is there a reason to use a unicrown fork over a segmented fork? I love the way segmented forks look so much. Does anyone have any experience with the ride quality of a segmented fork?
-
• #100025
Isn't it just that segmented are more expensive to make, as there's more welded joints (and so more time aligning things in jigs)?
If the upper cup of a threaded headset is screwed on as far as possible, but the fork is still loose within the frame (movement of less than 1cm), what is the issue?
It's as if the headtube is too small for the fork, or the fork isn't threaded far enough, and both of these things seem unlikely since they're part of a set...
