  • No direct experience, but I know Sony has been producing some really great sounding cans lately. If comfort is a high priority for extended use, maybe look for something with real leather or felt ear pads. They synthetic stuff will get hot and sweaty. And closed back design to reduce leakage. No one wants hot sweaty leakage.

  • I know I keep going on about them, but the sennheiser hd-25's ticks all those boxes

  • Not having the headache today... woohoo... however I do agree that when the noise cancelling is off, the sound is a little strange, it's like listening to the radio...

  • Cheers, they look good and cheaper too. I may go for these as I currently have Senheiser 280pro which have lasted me for over 5 years but are now past their best.
Although I am concerned that they will sit on my ears and make me hot as the cans look a little small

  • The HD-25's do sit more on-ear and have quite a strong clamping from the headband. Once used for 50 hours or so they do sound good and attenuate background well.

  • No one wants hot sweaty leakage.>
    Especially at work LOL

  • @TRA , totally agree with you on Bose noise cancelling. Do not want.

Might give those Sony's a go @cornelius_blackfoot . I hanker for some higher fi in my commuting ears.

  • B&O 3i. I don't ride outside with earphones any more but these are very good at adding music as a background to what's going on, rather than replacing the background with music, and surprisingly durable.

  • I misread your reply as B&Q 3i... and I thought do B&Q do headphones as well now?? lol

  • AKG 451's arrived yesterday...

Had a quick listen straight out of the box and they sound great, left them on overnight downstairs running Gregory Porter at 50% and they sound even better this morning - really pleased with them!

    Especially at £39!

  • I have a pair of hardly used and very Old School Pioneer DJ5000s for sale, having now upgraded to the wildly excellent AKG k550s.

  • I've got mine on right now. They haven't seen a lot of action since I got the Soundmagic E10s's for Christmas but it's nice to cone back to these.

  • I had some of those previously, unfortunately I carelessly hoovered them up!!

  • Anyone got suggestions for decent ear/headphones for around 15? My Bluetooth ones just broke short of 3 months of use. Commute feels so much longer now.

  • Suggestions for a cheap small music player that I can use with spotify? Need something small for running .. is ipod shuffle the only option?

  • I'm thinking about getting some new headphones. I've got some Bose QC15's, which I will be keeping for commuting etc but I'm after something with better sound quality, a bit more bass specifically. I'm not looking to spend a lot, only until I move out, as my HiFi is decent.
Am I likely to find something sub £100, even second hand, which is better than what I've got and worth the spend?

  • AKG K550 http://www.whathifi.com/akg/k550/review Can get them for about £100 new

  • By the sounds of that review the AKG K550 may be a little bass light - since that was a specific request. Although I'd recommend not going for bass driven cans.

@alasdairw do you want over ears or on ears? If you're keeping the QC15's for commuting do you care if they leak sound or not?

  • I find they're not particularly light on bass, although I'm not that much into bass heavy music and I do normally use them with a headphone amp.

  • I'll second the K550s. Bass response more than adequate IMHO, best headphones I have ever used.

  • They sound like the kind of things I am looking for. A lot of the reviews cite a lack of bass being a let down. Is this the case as I tend to listen to electronic music/techno etc when I am at work and do like a bit of bass

  • I don't find that the case personally but I don't listen to any electronic music/techno so my view may not be the most useful for you.

  • Cheers @aggi and @TRA I'll have a look at that pair. I'd prefer over ear just for comfort, although I may be wrong on this, having never had on ears. Also happy with open ear headphones or earbuds if its worth it. I mostly listen to electronic/house/pop music and i'll be using a FiiO E7 amp/dac if that helps. Just looking for something I can use at home for the next 6 months, if its only going to be marginally better than the QC15's I will 'suffer' on through.

  • I seem to be going through sports headphones at a scary rate of knots.

I had some of those Denon Bluetooth ones. Awsome sound untill one side died.
I replaced them With some cheapo bluethooth ones in a far smaller design. They were shite, and again one side died.
I now have a seriously cheapo set of wired ones. Sound is pretty poor, and fit is pretty poor.

I run With my headphones on, so I need a Nice fitting pair. I was into the idea of a Wireless set. But as they keep failing. I'm going off them. I'll be using them With my android phone, so a mic would be a bonus. Any recommendations? There seems to be a million options out there, and I keep buying the crap ones.
