  • The Surrey roads were in a terrible state.

They always are, stick some 28mm and you'll be fine.

  • Not sure even if he puts 42c tyres he can solve the cunty 4x4 driver issue ed ..

  • Chapeau. Must be great to have that ride under your belt. Have you been able to get out since?

  • Is that Newhaven?

  • Rungsted Havn

  • Are antibiotics on the doping list? I've had sligthly shitty winter with hardly any riding due to some respiratory/pneumonia thingie. Finally swallowed my pride and went to GP. On day three of my antibiotic cure this happened:

  • Went out on Dulwich paragons into ride. Beautiful, sunny, glorious day, and I got absolutely shredded. Went out the back of the group coming back into London, ended up with cramps all around my knees on Annerly hill.

  • essex/cambridgeshire is glorious

Still, wind sucked on the way back & I should have worn shorts with no tights. (sorry for the instagram)

  • Wicked day out in the chilterns, had to get out of London early and even at 7 you could tell it was going to be an awesome day.

Sent ourselves down a bit of an off road stretch with cobbles and mud, our own spring classic ;-)

  • Went to Cambridge and back. 93miles . Was windy. > 20mph average on the way there, then down to 18.something on the way back. Journey back was just brutal . Wrecked.

Had lunch here http://www.shelforddelicatessen.co.uk/. Very very good indeed.

  • Strong work.

I went out of Cambridge and back to see if I could find my TT legs and could barely turn 85 GI into the wind. Spinny on the way home, mind.

I'm still saving up for this years' Shelford Deli lunch.

  • Did a lovely 80km Horsham-Brighton-Horsham today. Awesome weather if a little headwindy on the way back in.

Some nice riders on the sussex lanes, spotted 5 or 6 Engimas on the way down, Spring must be in the air with all this Ti!

Rolling time, 3:00.01 - 24.5kph average, this was the route:

    And one of the Serotta:

  • In Switzerland this weekend, so on Saturday @Cycliste and I went over to the UCI velodrome. Having fitted the new bars and stem on my bike (Easton EC90 track bars with an Easton EC90SL stem - a great improvement over the Pro Vibe stuff) I did a 20 minute solo threshold effort, a 30 minute tempo session with @Cycliste in tow, before rounding things off with a few sprint/recover laps and a warm down. 20 track miles, so all good. Then we rode back to Villeneuve by the Rhone and got the train home.

Today we went for a ride up towards Moudon/Romont/Palazieux. The weather was really good, with a temperature of around 10-12 degrees despite all the snow on the ground. Here's the ride details:

And a coupla piccies. Here's @Cycliste climbing alongside Lac de Bret at the beginning of the ride:

And here's the view at the highest point of the ride, just before Le Flon:

I probably should've set off with rather more sustenance then two bottles of zero-calorie electrolytic drink. I ended up having to stop off at Bossonnens train station on the way back to buy an emergency Twix as @Cycliste was starting not only to be able to keep up during the climbs, but was starting to complain about the relaxed pace.

A good day out though. Oh, and it was our 20 year anniversary too.

  • Looks like the perfect way to celebrate 20 years!

    Huge congratulations to you both.

  • On Saturday my personal battle against the wind (SW 5 Bft) was on; rode on top of the dikes along the river Maas to a mate's place to watch the Strade Bianche race and to have a great meal and beers. Managed to get a respectable avg of about 31 kph - and slightly wobbly legs after.

On Sunday there was the short way home, refrained from putting pressure on the pedals (and my head ;-)) I took the scenic route, absolutely lovely especially in 17 degree C weather, the first really nice and warm spring day this year, yay!

This mixed surface bike path is part of the 'NAP long distance cycle route' (no. 9 in this list of all routes available in GPX format) which takes you along the 'waterline' that would be formed if all dikes would break and half our country would be flooded.

  • Scotland - it's not so bad.

  • Rode 2.5km, 10m of climbing.

Planned to ride With the kids to the petrol station for reward icecreams. Waited for the epic storm to die Down. Headed out. Only for it to blow up again. Gale force hale is not Nice. My 5 year old couldnt physically ride into the Wind, so we turned around.

My 5 year olds fun gland, far far out Powers his sense of self preservation gland. I swear its a Medical condition. Skiing With him, ages me at a rate of 1 year per 5 minutes. Cycling is much the same.

He instantly discovered the storm would allow him to hit speeds he had never before achieved. Then discovered the paths were full of massive puddles...

....One of which had a dip in the middle, deeper than his Wheel. Que flight over the bars into a foot of freezing Cold water. Having warned him 3 times I should had been angry. Being his dad I should have been sympathetic.......But it was just fecking hilarious.

He thought so too. Once the dry towels and hot chocolate defrosted him.

  • 150km yesterday.
    Two lunches today.

  • Begging friend of mine to go for a ride, he's usually the only one I go riding with regularly, he insist on having a short jaunt that's than 65km on account of his dodgy knees, so we took the train to Guildford and did a loops.

Went well, apart from going off road on Beaconhill Copse (mistake on my part), then again at Charlie's Hill (again, mistake) which give me an unique insight on how the pro did cyclocross back in the 70's with mere 25mm knobbies, wasn't too hard surprisingly, just a bit tricky descending a big drop on a road bike.

Have to take brake off in the end to clear away the mud properly, note to self - buy better brakes to replace the shitty Veloce one.

Very happy with the new road bike, comfortable, smooth, great to climb and fit very nicely.

Much to my surprise, 52/36 felt just about right.

    8/10 would.

  • I reckon this is one for @Rod_Munch. :)

  • Valve nuts and caps just sell it.

  • Top weather and never ridden a bike as fast as my current setup

  • I did that. I didn't fail.

Then I rode out to Maidenhead and won a 10.

On the Monday I crashed and spent much time in hospital.

Last weekend I got drunk with my arm in a sling.

This weekend I shall be listing all my bikes on ebay.
