Cheers @JB, it's interesting to hear your thoughts.
You've got it spot on in the first paragraph: this is to be a summer road bike, with clearance for 28mm tyres. My own preference is for all-steel, but I may wish go for crabon on the fork in the future, hence choosing the fork dims based on an Enve. The idea of tapered steerer is an intriguing one; I know that I don't need it (my Caad10 had a straight steerer and was more than stiff enough) but I'm still considering it.
Ultimately I do know what I want from the bike; it's basically captured in the Rychtarski I posted on the first page! I'm still enjoying hearing people's thoughts though; sometimes it inspires (e.g. text under the DT), and if I don't agree then it reinforces my own preference (e.g. discs).

Oh yeah, tubing choice is up to the builder (based on my proposed geometry, intended usage and weight/ riding characteristics).
That said, my bet is it'll end up as Columbus Zona.

Has anyone pointed out there have been alternatives in braking technology and it might be worthwhile considering some of these in the frame design? Hub brakes, coaster or even a fixed wheel drive train where all you have to do is slow down your feet to retard the biek...

It's good. Done 3.2k on it now. Hasn't missed a beat - literally not a beat.
Had Genesis Volare but sold it in place of a Lynskey. Returned the Lynskey as it's not what I wanted. Riding Pinnacle until I pass my probo period at work and will get something using Cycle Scheme - likely a Focus Cayo.
Rich - have you considered a Surly Pacer? ;-)

I ached on Friday. But fine after Friday. I had a lynskey rouleur frame. Got it for £587 in CRC sale - bargain but not what I wanted. Got it on a whim purely because it was cheap.

That sound perfect, I also 1+ on tapered steerer and carbon fork, you already got a standard steel bike as it is, description sound very much like the Genesis Volare;
Speaking of tyres, I highly recommend the Challenge Strada Bianca, fantastic light fast rolling tyres, although 30mm is the max for standard road calipers, I'll have to see how it fit on my Genesis Volare once I get it.

Finally a sensible question :)
No layback post because I was fitted on my Caad by Scherrit with an inline post, and it was great.
I could add an layback post to this but I'd have to adjust the frame geometry to suit, which just seems wrong. It's to be a relatively compact frame so I should get an agreeable amount of compliance from an inline post anyway.

If you've seen a picture of a 1,1/8 steel fork into a 44mm headtube using one of those crown race step-down adaptors, I'd like to see it.
I think that ultimately it seems like you know what you want from this bike and that is to be an out and out summer road bike. If I were building a custom summer road bike, I'd without a doubt go for 853/953 along with a tapered head tube and Enve forks but those would probably be my only main requirements. Along with clearances for 28c tyres.
However if I was building a custom bike, that's not what I'd do.
If I was going custom I'd basically get an Indy Fab Club Racer with 1/18th steel forks that had clearances for 28c tyres/guards/rando rack mounts.
Ignoring the entire build other than the frame, this is basically what I'd build. Including the choice of brakes. I like discs, I really do, but I think I'll save them for a touring bike/mountain bike.
Edit, have only just realised that has carbon tubes above. Ignore the carbon tubes too.
