  • Neither of those dimensions is what @Captain_P's photo shows, is what I mean.

  • Yep, that's spot on. Email it over to them. Sit back. Buy some discs. Wait a bit. Job done. Nice colour as well.

  • disks are over rated

  • You should go Rychtarski or similar for your build, if the Soma isn't forthcoming.

  • Might be a bit late to the discussion but have you looked at Velo Orange Grand Cru brake calipers. These are long reach but very powerful. They will give you clearance for 28mm tyres and guards without issue. I have found them more powerful and better modulation than my short reach campag dual pivots (can't comment on modern day shimano efforts). Short reach brakes are a more of a squeeze with 28mm tyres but doable with the right profile of mudguard.

  • Cheers - I have a winter bike though, so am not going to run mid/ long drops on this. I agree the VO grand cru do look nice though.

  • Soma not happening. Got a very good deal on a 2015 Croix frameset. Decided I didn't really need huge tyres on what will be essentially a commuter and light tourer.
When I go custom, gonna keep it local, and go see Mr. Rourke.

  • I vote pink with black forks and 'Rychtarski' written underside of down tube

  • I'd be interested in peoples views of which carbon fork to base the geo/ dims on. Currently it's enve 2.0 which is nice if pricey. The fork comes in different rakes, and I have been thinking 50mm as that was what was on my cannondale.

Conversely the Columbus Fel (or equivalent with straight steerer, e.g. Columbus tusk) comes only in 45mm rake.

  • The rather steep sexy 73° HT and small frame made me think of toe-overlap is any issue of yours.

  • I don't quite follow- I had a reach of 382 on my previous road bike and no particular issues with 170 cranks. On this I will have 380 reach, 165 cranks.

I'm hoping this means all will be OK.

  • Yes - was just making sure that you have put a little thought into it, excellent.

  • Gotcha.

I guess others might consider my bikes to have 'issues' with overlap but I've not found it to be a problem in practice.

The reference geometry is a 52cm caad 10.

  • Have you figured the mudguards into your toe-overlap calculation?

I'd configure this bike for two sets of wheels - 650b/32c/mudguards and 700c/25c/no-guards.

I reckon you'd get both in the same fork without a problem, and of course with disc brakes there would be zero issue swapping between the wheelsets.

  • Nice 'hack'

  • Its good to hear all this useful advice which I'll be taking to heart when I build a bike to replace my surly.

In the meantime, what do people like in the category of "1,1/8 straight blade carbon road fork (for calipers)"?

  • I like the idea of the text under the DT. At least I think I do - if I'm imagining it right. Have you got a photo reference in mind?

  • Enve

  • I'd configure this bike for two sets of wheels - 650b/32c/mudguards and 700c/25c/no-guards.

My girlfriend bike was intended to be this, until the overall wheel weight is slightly less than the 700c option so not much point in putting 700c on.

  • Specialized do it but top and bottom, looks pretty cool imo

  • discs are underrated.

    ftfy.
