Yeah, I'm quite into Belgian beers myself.
Jan's in Stoke Newington (Northwold Road) is run by a Continental import. They often have pretty unusual Belgian beers.

Jan's in Stoke Newington
Google says it's closed or relocated. I'm not usually in that area but I'd note it if still open?

Looks good though!

Ahah you really went through the entire map didn't you? I am Holloway based, but work next door to the Dovetail, as a matter of fact I am always looking for someone that enjoys a good (aka proper) Belgian beer afterwork!
Trip to Belgium, I am trying to get my girlfriend on the same page.. But yeah, is definitely happening, most likely this year.

Er oops? I last went last autumn, I think in November. I hadn't noticed that it's closed since, but I'll have a look the next time I go past. To be fair, it has always looked 'closed' from the outside. :) Web-site still up, I hope they're still in business.

I was just thinking of ones I used to go to a fair bit. Now I'm in the City there's not much choice. We have more German options than Belgian. Working next door to the Dovetail would've killed me a couple of years ago. Go to Ghent or Brugges both are quite nice and have lots of good bars. There's bars all over the country but if you're taking your missus then she'll like the pretty canals and stuff in the old town parts.

As you probably know, the Dovetail's mothership is the Dove in Broadway Market.
-
• #3359
Yeah, haven't been to the Dove for years to be honest. My mate was very friendly with a lass at the Dovetail so we went there often :)
-
• #3360
So that's why there was never any beer left at the Dovetail in those days.
-
• #3361
I never end up going so much, my coworkers only want to drink some tasteless Fosters afterwork! Actually if you find yourself around and want to go for a good (aka proper) beer just drop me a line!
Funny this is she's been to Bruges already, and in reality I was hoping to put together a quick 4-5 days bike trip, with short rides and long stops at some of the breweries down there.. Most of the details are still up in the air tho

Didn't know! I moved to London only last summer and I am still learning my way around.

Our lot certainly did make a dent in their supplies that's for sure!
Also, the old Lowlander
Cantillon
De Kulminator
No wonder I always got lost..
There's a 3L bottle of Tripel Karmeliet in there somewhere..
Dovetail
Another Dovetail..
Dove
Ghent 6 Day..

Also, the old Lowlander
My old office local :(
-
• #3365
We might've crossed paths. We used to go there for lunch a LOT. My mate was sweet on one of the staff there and I was lusting after their beer.
-
• #3366
Have you had the moules and frites at the Dovetail? Absolutely mega
-
• #3367
Not sure I did, I had food in there few times, but I usually order when I am drunk and the day after I remember more about the beer rather than the food. Will try next time!
-
• #3368
I was overjoyed when it opened and dismayed when it closed. Lowlander is owned by some city honcho whose city bar experiment failed.
-
• #3369
I didn't rate the Bloody 'Ell but I'm going to a Beavertown tap takeover on Thursday so I'm going to ask about it.
I've been told the orange taste will come through more if you leave it a while and allow the hoppiness to die down.
-
• #3370
I usually avoid the west end but if I'm ever there for a show or something then I tend to hit the Lowlander.
-
• #3371
if I'm ever there for a show..
like your season ticket to:
row A, next to my seat allocation :D
-
• #3372
The last thing I saw was Stomp. I'm clearly missing a trick with my bookings!
-
• #3373
Oh yeah, Punk IPA old label stock at £1 bottle/can... just ordered 50... should do for the weekend.
-
• #3374
*dreams of days when:
A) I could drink that much
B) without voiding mesen
C) without fucking my DVT even more -
• #3375
Where are you getting that from?
The Euston Tap also has some good Belgian brews - mostly bottles in their fridges. Where are you located?
I definitely remember drinking Belgian bottles in the Porterhouse before going to Gaucho for a meal.
Or, just fuck off to Belgium and do it properly :)
