Thanks.
Mental preparation for the eventually inevitable unclip fail is done. -

Ha, thanks, that thread is gold.
I did my share of falling while trying to get used to straps. I think the switch to clipless will only need some getting used to the new technique, as I am already used to getting my foot off the pedal before stopping. -

Presents for a slvlss?

Any suggestions on where to buy 18650 batteries and chargers? Willing to pay a bit more for battery that lasts, charger that doesn't set my house on fire.

Recommendation for an entry level MTB clipless pedal? Cheap preferred...
-
• #66621
Thanks. Is the M530 worth the additional price? I thought maybe the bigger platform on that one would allow me to use it with normal shoes?
-
• #66622
The cage on the M530 and other "trail SPD" models protects the pedal and supports the sole when used with recessed cleats but they don't add much support for flat-soled shoes.

The 'Trail' style pedals aren't really intended for use with normal shoes, the clicky bits stick up above the platform so you end up standing on that rather than a pseudo-flat pedal. If you really want to ride a lot in flat shoes, you want something like the PD-M324 or one of the other single sided road/touring SPD pedals like PD-A530.

I had some once, would not buy again.
Just one further thought, set the release up as quite light initially, you should be able to release with a fairly gentle flick of your heel.
Alternatively, wind the release up tight, fall sidewards into a gutter with your feet locked in and be laughed at!
