Which Tyres?

  • I ran a veloflex master on the rear of my fixie till it wore to dust. Not a single issue. Commuting, long rides, Winter rides, etc. Had a veloflex record on the front too.

I get the impression the roads are less stabby up here though.

  • Any suggestions for a 38mm tyre?
Not too heavy, good puncture protection, with black sidewalls, 700c.
Currently run 32mm paselas, any bigger and all I can find are tan wall.

  • any way to buy those flo 30 wheels in the UK?

Just gotta pay the postage - postage to Australia cost me a fair whack (USD114.5 for two wheels, goes up per rim/wheel) but apparently it's come down a lot since the early days. Although there is the advantage here of international packages significantly under AUD1000 not being scrutinised for tax (although there are exceptions sometimes!).

Email the guys at Flo through their contact form on the website to ask for postage prices, Jon is pretty fast with his response times.

VeloVitality might have them; worth giving them a call.

  • No.
    Have to order from USA.
And wrong thread. Theres a wheels one.

  • anyone riding the new bontrager aw1 tyres ? or 2's or 3's

i've had the bontrager race lite tyres in the past and they have been brilliant hopefully the AW's retain the same puncture proofness

  • Cheers. Black, light weight, not sure about puncture protection, but the price. Will have a look around though, may be worth spending a bit for some nice tyres.

There are more vittorias that fit your description but those ones are dirt cheap on PX (or at least they were).

  • Where will you be riding?
If its pinch flats your are worried about; put a latex or an extra light butyl tube in ..

  • As a commuting tyre option feel I should recommend the vittoria randonneur pro I have been running them (32c version on a pompetamine) until I see the p*nct*re belt showing through and have had no p*nct*res in 2 years of commuting over poor terrain.

This includes passing a scrap yard which was the likely source of the piece of spoke like metal I pulled out of one of the tyres this morning (no deflation as of yet). The 120 tpi version also seem to roll well for me, especially as with looking around/patience you can pick them up for £10-15.

  • Mainly rough arse north west roads.
And eventually northern France. Had a look at compass, 50ea! But quality is quality, so may give em a go.
As my bike gets used every day, the cost ain't too bad, will keep having a look though, found some Schwalbe almotion, heavier, but not bad.

  • Or 3psi of reasonably priced air.

    #buyer

  • I think they will be fine since they are designed for gravel .. if you are ok with tan walls they are £39.99 http://www.velovitality.co.uk/collections/wheels-tyres-and-tubes/products/compass-barlow-pass-tyre-700c-x-38-mm

  • For the extra 20, think I'd go for the black. Will give em a bell tomorrow, to see what stock/delivery time is like.
    Cheers again.

  • How will you compare the Strada LGG to a GP4000? Mostly on the p_ncture protection, because running anything less p:uncture proff than GP4000 in Denmark is IMPOSSIBLE. (#fuckyouflint)

  • @ jimmy2shoes The 28c Clement Strada LGG's that I've got measure up as 26mm on my rims (15mm inner rim width) , so seem to run small, rather than big?

  • Is there any meaningful difference between Conti 4000 and 4000 II? Enough to warrant a £7 price difference on the site I'm looking at?

  • Oops, just noticed £6 P&P on the cheaper 4000. I'll be going for the 4000 II then (free P&P) as they're effectively the same price.

  • the 4000s and 4000sII? - if so, no I think the only change is the graphics (at least that's what I concluded after various googling when purchasing a set of 4000s' last year)

  • Aye, cheers Dan

  • Got a 25c vittoria open pave. Will report back in a month.
    Seems nice though.

  • If everyone ride Pave's the world would be a much better place.

  • Yeah I'm running the aw1 in 25c on my rear wheel currently, the wired one. Used to run the race lites as well until they stopped making them, and the aw1 is a good replacement. Good balance between durability and feeling nice to ride. I tried the aw 2 as well (folding 23c) a few weeks ago but didn't get on with it as well as the 1.
