  • PS3 works pretty easily but I'm not a fan of them. Ended up with a wired xbox one. You can get wireless ones working but takes a bit.

  • Cool I'll give that a go.

  • Think you are thinking of the G5 version. They were bloody annoying.

  • I'd be tempted to try the xbox wired option. PS3 controllers feel so baggy.

Can't remember the last time I held an Xbox controller. Needs to be wireless though.

  • Think you are thinking of the G5 version.

    Indeed I was.

  • At last an official ish recall for 2011 fucked up MBPs ans some 15inch retina MBPs too...

    http://www.macworld.co.uk/news/mac/widespread-2011-macbook-pro-failures-petition-lawsuit-repair-programme-3497935/

I have a question, mine has just come back from the repair just before the recall begins... they have replaced the logic board. Is the graphics card a part of the logic board as I always thought it was a problem with the graphics card...

  • Logic board is what needs to be replaced. You should be fine.

  • The graphic card is welded to the logic board.

I am so happy to hear about this, mine has been sat under my bed for the last few months and I had to buy a new one in the mean time. I can finally make some money back on it.

  • I thought so... but just wanted to double check. Let's hope this is the end of Yvette matter for me...

  • Finally. Wasn't there a class-action law suit against them for this? Mysteriously, mine has been fine and I really hammer the GPU.

They just bumped the warranty on all 2011 MBPs to 2016, so that's cool.

  • They just bumped the warranty on all 2011 MBPs to 2016, so that's cool.

    Really?!? That's awesome!

  • Look at the link I posted, TS. Apple is starting a recall for early 2011 MBP 15inch to replace the logic board.

  • Still debating whether or not I should put a ssd in... and up the ram to 16...

  • There was a class action lawsuit which started in California I think. I'm guessing Apple decided to get in first to avoid too much bad publicity.

Will replacing the logicboard really fix the problem though? From what I read about people who had it replaced already is that it has every chance to fail again.

And ExTra, I'd definitely recommend an ssd but the 16gb of ram isn't that great value for money compared to putting in 8gb in terms of performance increase.

  • If you have the monies, just do it. It made my mbp go from beach ball bonanza to a proper workhorse

  • It has 8gb on it already... 1st thing I did when I got it back in 2011...

  • Mine went from 8 to 16, made a big difference i think

  • Did you also put a ssd in it too? dilemma I have is that I already have a new retain mac that I use mostly, so this 2011 model is just a fancy backup 'desktop', which is why I am not sure if I want to spend that much to do it up...

  • yeah, ssd too. might be worth starting with that, see if makes difference enough?

  • Just installed Yosemite. Big project starting Wednesday. Please work.

  • Good luck!
For what's it's worth I had zero problems. Even bootcamp worked perfectly still and I heard of issues from some folks.
No probs with cs5, 6 or CC either...

  • All seems to be working fine. Didn't think I'd like Helvetica in OSX, but I really do

  • ..my thoughts exactly, it's a bit awkward at first, but then it's just beautiful.
