Combine events are for members of clubs belonging to the Combine. I think in theory you can get a private time trial at the discretion of the event secretary, as it's an MDCC/MiddxRC co-production it might be possible for @umop3pisdn to get a ride if he asks nicely.

Stumbled on this while looking for something else:
http://www.slideshare.net/AltairHTC/examining-the-aerodynamic-performance-of-commercial-bicycle-racing-wheels-using-cfdA couple of the slides look as though they might shed some light on the reasons why some people can't handle a Hed3 in a cross wind while some of us are not bothered, notably slide 13 showing a sharp change of sign in the turning moment at about 15°, and slide 20 showing a strong periodic variation in drag (reflected in side force and turning moment too?) presumably because the wheel looks very different to the wind with two spokes above the axle vs. two spokes below the axle. This graph also shows a large difference between different forks, which may be a clue to the difference between those of us who regard the Hed3 as an all condition wheel and people who put it back in the car as soon as they can feel any kind of breeze. Thoughts?

Yeah I think you're quite right. There's a fair interaction between the forks, one reason why I stuck with Jetstreams once I realised they worked with the H3s I was running at the time. I used to pray for wind as if you can hold down a trispoke in a gale it's just so so fast.

Faster than 808FC? prepares credit card

H3 is only super fast with a skinny tyre, probably not for you.

Might it buy me a few more seconds in the short stuff? I promise I won't run a 25 on it :)
-
• #8435
Maybe, on certain days, if it agrees with your fork

Do you have a hypothesis for types of forks that work better with the H3 (having just purchased a 2nd hand one to run with my Excocet2)...?
wider? big gap between wheel and fork? sparkly paint?

Wide crown so you don't get higher pressure when a spoke passes through.

Has anybody got any knowledge of these discs and whether or not they are any good? I cant find much on the web.

If it's actually PRO then it's Shimano's parts division so should be decent.
Looks like it is (bottom):

that was my thought - but also from tester's post: https://www.lfgss.com/comments/12107540/ I was wondering about fork blade width (as seen from side on) and the shielding effect it might have.

H3 + Argos fork is good?
-
• #8442
I use a hed3 with an argos fork and cant say I've had much trouble in anything but the most gusty winds. I'm quite light too.

I've got a Raltech cover that doesn't fit my Cervelos chainstays you can have for cheapz. Middle section roughly cut for a Powertap hub, the covers are dished for a normal track wheel and cover the braking surface.

There's just no stall point with a H3, so it's more consistent. But you'd need a clincher so you can get the right size tyres, I've nearly run out of 20mm VF Records for my trispoke which is one of the reasons I switched to an (old style - faster in <5deg yaw) 808 as I can run slightly wider tyres with no aero penalty.

I very much doubt I'll get one - it was just a thought. I only run clinchers anyway. I went slower on 20s than 23s so now I run 27s :)
I wonder what the speed difference is for a 10mi on the P-X with SRAM S80 vs. S-Works with 808FC front?
I've got my own leg trips ready for March 1st 10mi..

Severn RC 25 on the U17, 104" was fine but losing a contact lens into my visor halfway in wasn't! (had to get off the bike and faff FFS)

Specs no good?

Anyone got any good neck stretching exercises? Mine's tweaked again and I wonder if there's something that can help lower my huge dome?

I've tried wearing glasses on the bike but get really disorientated with the lack of peripheral vision. Normally contacts are fine, I'm just wearing cheapo ones at the moment so will change supplier.
