Anyone going for a set of ^ these remember the CW code CWCARBON that I posted in Jan is still working. That saves another £50.

FSA Team30s. What a waste of time.
So tight, just couldn't get tyres on or off. Swapped the factory rim tape, first for two layers of electrical tape (which made life easier) but then felt guilty (wife's wheels) and put Velox on there. Almost back to square one.
If I fit veloplugs, does anyone know what size I would need?

Just burn them with fire
-
• #4330
Don't, I'm tempted.

Can't help you on which veloplugs but depending on the chanel they'll likely take up more room than tape if that's your thinking.
I think someone on ww mentioned thin tape for tight rim/tyre combos.

Stans tape maybe?

Without me having to look through 174 pages, what are people's recommendations for a wheel set no more than £250? Or what should I lookout for if I was buying secondhand?

What are you after?
Clincher/Tubular/Tubeless/ShimSram/Campag/Shallow/Deep/Crabon? -

Shimano Rs10 or Rs30
-
• #4337
Clincher, shimano, nothing too deep. Light would be nice.

can you find Ultegra 6800 wheels that cheaply? They're probably the best cheaper wheelset out there right now, a big improvement from their non-series R wheels.

Buy either of the above, spend the difference on latex tubes and nice tyres.

• #4340
Stop dan, you're too sensible.
-
• #4341
Campag Zondas for that money surely? As good as Ksyriums according to lots of people I ride with.
-
• #4342
Check the Superstar Components website?
-
• #4343
Thanks everyone. its a slightly difficult one as they're going on a skinny slx frame. So trying to work what will look nice as well as ride nice is tricky.
-
• #4344
Zondas and 6800 factory wheels are nice and that but you can't rebuild them when the rim is toasted. I think they both use proprietary spokes.

It's the same deal with these but at least they're wide.
If I were you @nev I'd talk to a builder about your options. I'd expect they'll point you to something repairable like these.

Is there a big difference in the way a bike feels if you ride wider rims? Would I notice the difference between a set of open pro's Vs the RS31
-
• #4347
no
-
• #4348
Open pros aren't what wheel marketers are calling 'wide'. They're about 1.5mm wider than the old standard at 15mm internal (rims like the Archetype and those Fulcrum LGs are ~17mm).
Would I notice the difference
Impossible to say. Some people can't tell when they've got a flat tyre. It's more desirable than (for instance) light weight hubs, alloy nips etc IMHO.

what do people think about ambrosio Excellence rims with ambrosio hubs? and what should i pay for some second hand?
-
• #4350
That is no what I felt when I changed from the open pro's to the Hed Ardennes.
I went for the 46/66 based this photo of a Supersix with 46/66 Strikes and thought the difference wasn't too bad at all:
