UCI regulation 1.3.007:
"The use of equipment designed especially for the attainment of a particular performance (record or other) shall be not authorised"

Like all the road bikes converted to track bikes?

Those bars, and Voigt and Brandle's bikes should also fall foul of the rule that says 'It must be marketed (i.e. available for sale on the market) or marketable (i.e. available for sale directly from the manufacturer, by subscription or through an alternative distribution network', but hey, I guess the UCI are just happy for some positive attention for a change and don't want to be seen as killing the record. Again.

Until they let Thomas Doper have a crack at it, that is.
They might claim that because the frames are available to the public, kind of, they're ok.
It's not like the disallowed all the British medals at the Olympics because of all their cheat kit is it?
-

Hey those bikes are totally available to the public... In a way.

Weird that the UCI were happy to have track ends grafted on to homologated TT frames, but they won't let racing teams file the lawyer lips of their fork ends :-)
-
• #510
By weird you mean 'stupid', right?
Saying that, I've never bothered to file mine down but I'm not often finding myself with a support car tailing me.

and that's what happens when you lack consistency UCI - the big names get frustrated and it fucks cycling over

Cancellara has become such a little bitch in recent years, always whining about something. He knows Wiggins in a pursuit position will beat him, and he's annoyed that he can't have a go at an athlete's hour, which is more suited to him.
-

Cancellara isn't such a big name, only ten letters.
-
• #514
He's just making the bold move of not even waiting till he's retired to become the new Hinault/Roche.

A nice (but annoyingly undated?) article here about an aussie amateur giving it a go. Presumably in the last few days.
Putting the hour record into perspective: How does an amateur compare?
I did not know...
Six-day riders will sometimes cut a lemon into a quarter and put it under their skin suit (near the collarbone) and suck it through their skin suit. The acid gets rid of the mucus build-up in the mouth (which is evaporated saliva).

Cool looking article.

Interesting that he went in knowing he wanted negative splits but didn't manage them.

Very interesting article, thanks.
Makes me wonder how much kms I would be able to do.
Like.. 30? -
• #520
I could probably do 30 laps, if I did some training.
-
• #521
I could do 30 laps of the infield bar.

@xavierdisley, can you tell us what your magic formulas would predict for a very mediocre cyclist?
For example: ftp=290w, poor cda of 0.27... In other words, me. Obviously a myriad of factors, but what sort of ballpark would an averageish person be able to do?
-
• #523
As you can see below, some of the best times have been set by riders in older categories
I'd have thought they'd all record times of about an hour, regardless of age cat?
-
• #524
Doing a 25m TT gives you some idea. Maybe.
-
• #525
I wouldn't describe that CdA as "average", but with those numbers you could probably do 42km. Bear in mind though that FTP =/= hour record power, you need to take at least 10w off as it's grim!
So that Rohan Dennis can use them on his record breaking ride
