• Hoppo is in Florida apparently checking Kurtis out

  • I'm pretty sure the shot in the Guardian of Steve eating pie'n'chips was taken in Tewkesbury's J.D.Wetherspoon. The only way it could get any more #audax would be if he boots a tyre with a ketchup sachet.

His is the least glamorous, most English record attempt ever. So he'll hold that record.

  • He was in Florida racing the Sebring 24hr.

  • Sunday 15th Feb - 193.6 mi, 15:15:59 h, 6,332 ft

    Monday 16th Feb - 200.6 mi, 15:26:30 h, 5,758 ft

    cumulative - 8,818.2 mi, 29:14:17:35 d, 252,307 ft

  • Going at his own wisdom tooth with a screwdriver to be able to race the other day.
    Wow.
If anyone does this, then this guy.

  • Looking at their Strava analysis, Steve seems to have the most consistent, measured performance. I get the feeling Kurt is beginning to hurt more near the end of his days, his speed and HR becomes more erratic and he is starting to stop more often, even though his daily distance is epic. I think he may need to treat himself to more recovery time or less intensity for a while. 10/10 for Kurt's stubborn hard nosed effort, but maybe 9/10 for preventative maintenance.

    Oh, thanks, thought odd!

  • Good analysis ! I like, gotta love Kurtis though, Ive kinda really warmed to him.

Yeah and lots of negativeness on Steves part :(

Its only just started, Steves tactics not even started yet :)

  • Looks like Steve is over in my neck of the woods at the moment. It turns out he passed within 3 miles of my house yesterday, and is inbound at present on his way back from Lowestoft. Maybe I should go for a ride and see if I bump into him.

  • Done. Bumped into him just north of Pymoor (going in opposite directions) and shouted a few words of encouragement. He's got a commendably low position on the bike given the length of time he's spending on it, but I think he'll need it today. There was a pretty strong SWerly headwind out there, and he's travelling west. Fenland headwinds take no prisoners.

  • subscribed.

  • That was nice. I'm sure when he is up in the northwest for the 24 i can get a few sunlighters to give him some support . Presuming he isnt up against one of our own ! Or hippy.

  • There was a pretty strong SWerly headwind out there

Please tell me it was a swirly SWerly. :)

  • I'm defnertly going to track his route and try to find him to egg him on when he come over to Cambridge next month.

The website discourages it a bit, but I'll just make sure I don't knock him off.

  • Please tell me it was a swirly SWerly. :)

I'd love to, but that would be lying. It was a good constant howling blast, just like normal in these here parts.

I did wonder if I should turn round and at least offer to give him a wheel for a while given the gale of a headwind, and the fact that I was fresh as a daisy after only 5 miles, but in the end I decided I'd leave him to it. Like you say, the website does seem to suggest that a cheery wave en passant is the best option.

  • When I read the website ages ago, I thought it was encouraging people to go out and ride with him?

Maybe they changed it after one of his hosts slipped on some ice ahead of Steve and caused a crash?

  • Maybe they changed it after one of his hosts slipped on some ice ahead of Steve and caused a crash?

That's exactly how it reads to me.

  • Tuesday 17th Feb - 200.2 mi, 15:04:57 h, 3,491 ft

    Wednesday 18th Feb - 200.2 mi, 15:35:24 h, 4,324 ft

    cumulative - 9,218.6 mi, 30:20:57:56 d, 260,122 ft

  • His 24hr PB is a little lower than mine so I don't think he's a threat. Please feel free to cheer us both on equally :)

  • Compare Kurt's and Steve's rides today. Steve seems to be doing laps of a loop just outside Bicester while Kurt is zipping along the never ending bridges of the Florida Keys. I know where I'd rather be....

  • yep, bicester, every single time..

  • I use Bicester on one of my training loops. I should find somewhere nice to go.

I've never been to Flo Rida so I couldn't comment on that.

  • Kurt's latest FB video suggests he was chasing a tailwind today too.
