Oh wait, are we talking about the Tring course? I avoided it last year on the grounds that 'fast courses are cheating' so I usually did the Witney bypass instead (h10/181?). However, I discovered that I'm so slow on 'fair' courses that I may as well just make the most of a localish fast course. I'll hopefully do a couple of the Wednesday club events.

I went faster on both the H10/2 and the H10/8 than I did on the F11 last year. Even a -300' elevation change from start to finish can be cancelled out by better condition and better conditions.

If it's so fast why do they use it infrequently? Is there an issue with the council running more events on it or is it just that no club is organising them?
Not to bothered about it being an Open event. A PB for me is a PB, even more so at 10mi distance which I think I've raced twice in the last three years.

I think it's a lack of promoters. It's a new course, and a lot of clubs would rather stick to their established courses and dates (which can run for decades) rather than having to start from scratch with all the things which need to be in place for a different location - HQ, timekeepers, marshals etc.

Early season PB for me today, 22:26 riding 107". I overshot a roundabout costing me about 10 seconds, and am confident I can go under 22 this year, Might need to ride some slightly faster courses though!
Anybody else racing yet?

PB this early in the year is a good sign, well done.
I'm thinking about doing a club 10 for a bit of a laugh on March 1st. Should just about be able to finish it under 24 hours I reckon.

Not racing until April unless I do the MDCC Hilly for lolz in March. Nice one Rob, told you big gears work.

Reading CC club event on the Thicket on March 21st is in my diary for an early season shakedown if the weather is nice.

Eschewing your own club's event?
-
• #8412
There's a 10 there on the 1st - not tempted by that? Too cold?

Eschewing your own club's event?
The hilly one? Yes, for obvious reasons.

Too cold?
Very likely, and no point rushing the season, there's about 60 races I could do without needing long trousers.

Fair point, it's kind of that reason I'm tempted to have a go. It's so far away from anything important and I might set a course PB (26:08 shouldn't be hard to beat) if my saddle doesn't slip like last time I rode in 2010 :)

Anyone riding the North Road Club Hardriders this weekend?

I've put my name down for the Maidenhead Thicket "windy and cold or both" H10/2 on Mar 1st.
Aim is to beat 26:08 from 5 years ago..

Well if forum celebrities are racing I might be forced to enter.

I was tempted to see how much of a 'novelty' race I can turn it into whilst still (hopefully) tearing my previous course PB a new one - Kinesis with Durano Plus and mudguards?
Then again I could actually be sensible and try some of my good bike's mods (ie. TriRig front-end) to see if they actually work. Interesting to see what gym work and no real TT training has done to my power too. Bike really needs to go to @scherrit for some hydraulic fluid-powered love...

Its almost like having a stalker reading that :)

Is that you PNuT? 5 years ago.. nice dredge :)
I just copied and pasted the text from somewhere after someone posted shots of your bike.

Not a member of a WL affiliated club.
Only 2 open events on the F11 (the VTTA have made theirs "Members Only", which is a total dick move), Hemel Hempstead on June 13th and VC10 on August 31st. VC10 run their Wednesday evening club events on there if you want some practice.
