  • My Concor gives me pain in my parts on a longer ride...I say pain, more the feeling that I've lost one of said important parts...

The only saddle that didn't was the Specialized Taupe that I sold, because I didn't like the look of it...I did however like being able to not be in pain!

  • Very true, I'll have to give it a measure

  • i need to check but i think i got one in white somewhere, but i found it to not be the greatest saddle

  • Yeah? I've read polar reviews, might just hold out and buy an Arione

  • Anyone know if i need to have spacers above my stem on the roadie? I'm getting a new low rise cover which will drop it low but i won't have the spacers to replace the size of the cover. Can i basically have spacer underneath the stem, then bare steerer and then top cap screwed in?

  • I wouldn't. I have a 3mm (or 5, I'll have to check) carbon spacer you can have if you need it

  • Would appreciate that, it's just until i can find sommat i like and get it cut. Anyone any estimate for price?

  • For cutting the steerer? Speak to Matt or @jakjakjak in Dandy, or get some pipe cutters and do it yourself if you're feeling brave

  • I'm not feeling brave, was gonna ask at dandy just wondered if anyone had had it done before!

  • You can run an ahead stem without the spacers if you've got an alloy steerer/star fangled nut, but you need to get the steerer length exactly right. You want the steerer to end 3-5mm below the upper edge of the stem - if you leave it too high, the top cap will pull against the steerer rather than the stem, and your headset won't compress properly.

Not sure if the same translates to full carbon forks with expanders (if that applies?) as I'd imagine you're limited by the length of the bung, plus cutting carbon is more precarious.

Hacksaw and "measure twice, cut once" has served me well with metal steerers over the years either way.

  • Basically, what @thross said.

    Plus:

If the forks are full carbon, it all works in exactly the same way. You just substitute starnut with the bung/plug, then what @thross said.

Whether it's an alu steerer or carbon, it's a quick job, so the cost isn't much more than a tonne of spacers would be (less than if you got carbon spacers).

  • Am I right in thinking you work at dandy? Estimate on how much it would cost to bring the bike in and have you guys do it? I know it's the caad8 2014, bog standard! Would check but I'm on my phone!

  • I had a look at one in evans the other day, nice bike!

  • They're not bad yeah, first roadie haha

  • That's me - sent you a pm so as not to bung up the thread with boring questions and details.

  • Most carbon steerers come with a recommendation to leave 2-3mm above the stem and use a 5mm spacer on top. Alloy is safe to have below the stem.

  • Also wtf is all this on-topic shit

  • I was thinking about this yesterday actually, maybe a re name is in order

  • Off topic...I love my new job

  • Got the new wheels yet? Did you go for the Coupe?

  • Discovery Sport HSE Lux Auto...black with cream leather...pimping!

  • OT what has everyone been listening to recently?

  • Lots of death metal/grindcore \m/

    Any fellow metal fans?

  • More towards hardcore myself, dirty dirty hardcore haha. Enjoying plenty of Bon Iver/Justin Vernon inspired stuff at the same time though, all depends on my mood i guess!
