Lego vs Meccano,
for a brief while in the '60s, there was a Uk/british competitor to Lego,
'Better Builder' or possible 'Betta Builda'.
Rather than Lego's standardtwin row brick/beam,
BB was resolutely single row, amking childish constructions much flimsier.
I also remember it had green roofing tiles, that connected to make a pitched roof.
You never had enough corner, (internal & external), pieces to complete you masterwork,
although you did learn to 'brick-count' to ensure you had a chance of making
at least a balanced/equal pitched roof.
