Thanks everyone for your help!
@Heldring: True, this wasn’t done quite quickly and I might have used the wrong estimation there.
@dave4: Thanks for your opinion I’ll have a look at the thread
@noBlakes: I’m looking for a 50-52cm I think being 5”7 and my current 54 Caad8 is too big for me. The Caad10 in small sizes do seem rare on the Bay or Gumtree though which pushed me to try and see if I could find one new instead … I’ll have a look at the wheels thanks
@miro_o: The problem with buying full retail is that I don’t get to build my own bike which I think is a good experience and I also don’t get all the parts I want and have to change a lot of stuff straight after buying it which is not great. How much do you want for your black Antares? PM me
@Dammit: Are they easily available in the UK? Would you just buy the rim and get it built by someone? What about the Flo60? Too heavy?
@rive_gauche: Not a big fan of frame actually

It could make its way up your uranium too I suppose...

I agree with Howard.
Thing is buying a complete bike is buying bulk. So its cheaper.
Play with the Ribble bike builder and the Aero 883. Looks very fast.

I appreciate the satisfaction in doing your own build, but shelling out £700 for an alu frameset then fitting 105 to it....uughhhh why?
The CAAD10 frame is great but there's a reason why 'dale charge so much for one - they don't want to sell any :)
-
• #6506
That's about the same weight as the equivalent HED or Shimano wheels.
Fair point re. weight limit.

scrub both those frame ideas and go for something new - bowman-palace
+1
Good call. The Rose Xeon RS is an option too.

Reported for grooming...

True, I forget how heavy the RS80-C50s are, and I rather like them, despite the fact they're heavy, narrow and probably not that aero!

This is a cracking deal with Di2: http://secure.campaigner.com/Campaigner/Public/t.show?7vnnv--3wxdv-p3101w9&_v=2

Some people whom society let down balanced up the wealth by nicking my fucking bike.
So I'm looking for a replacement winter bike, max £900ish. Must have guards and preferably 25+ tyre clearance, 105 or Veloce.
The Ribble Audax special with 105 finished yesterday, their bike builder ones are still an option but tyre clearance minimal and increased price over the special a bit galling. Dolan Prefissio sold out in my 56cm size.
Might consider Kenesis race light t2 home build.
Any other interesting options? Anyone seen any bargains? -

you could probably fit guards on it...
or there's some CAAD10 105 deals floating about for just under £1000

and I have no idea what size you are but this seems a bargain
£775 either in small or large

Thanks folks. The PX is a little bit overkill TBH and I really want proper guards after the scrape scrape of crud racers. Would like a little more traditional than the Arkose, I'll do longish rides and chain gang on it, although I haven't ruled out cx style stuff. The Dolomite - interesting, I'll take a closer look.

Hi all, looking for a bit of feedback before I start hitting the bike shops and testing out a few different models.
Most of my riding is weekend club rides, although I do love doing doing regular RP laps which I suppose are more akin to mini solo TTs.I ride alot in a bunch, but some of the guys I ride with swear by aero bikes just for the "improved" handling ( I have no idea if aero bikes handle better ).
I'm niether a kick ass hill climber nor a top sprinter I'm just in good shape and enjoy riding a racey bike.
Finally I have been a bit flumoxed by roumours of discs become UCI legit from next year.
Not that I'm going to be doing any race stuff but does that mean we're going to see a flood of new models next year? ( cannondale roumors a plenty.. )Bikes I'm currently considering either side of 2 grand..
Cervelo S2
Cervelo R3
Cannondale Supersix 105
Trek Emonda SL6
Giant propel advanced 2
spesh tarmac comp /eliteor disc models
giant defy advanced pro 1
focus cayo 4.0
cannodale caad 10 discanything I've missed or bikes you've really enjoyed riding?
oh and for bikes with training standard wheels I'll be looking to build up flo 30's for nice rides in the summer.
Thanks!

canyon bikes? rose bikes? Check them out, they're really good value for money component wise and have various models around the £2k mark
-
• #6518
Whisper it but the Raleigh Maverick 631 disc bike range looks like great value for winter /commuter duties. Rival 11 speed and Hyrd for £1000, Sora and Spyres for £750

In caliper brake my vote goes for Cervelo R3 for the tyre clearance and the trickle down design from R5.
Disc is nice but the only one which is actually designed thinking disc brakes rather than just putting disc brakes on road bikes is the Focus cayo. @skinny has one and is going to race across continents soon.
They are all nice bikes. Question is what fits you the best; Emonda , defy and all cervelos have higher front end. The rest are pretty race-y. Focus and Cervelo could be hard to get hold to try but the rest can be sorted at Evans/CS.

Cheers a for the feedback!
My current winter bike has quite a low front end and although great for fast ride rides I have found my self wishing for something more upright on longer climbs, also I'm doing this through work so it needs to be uk based ( luckily we can go over a grand- in fact up to 10! ) otherwise I'd definitely look at canyon or rose.. -
• #6521
Tyre clearance is weird on the R3. I think it's got loads of space at the fork then only 25mm clearance at the back.
-
• #6522
Giant propel advanced 2
^ one of these then swap the chainset for something Power2max.
[ disclaimer, the R3 is the only one of those bikes I've ridden, it was very nice ]
-
• #6523
What bike do you have now?
And if your front end is too low, you're not flexible enough or your core is weak. So just raise the front end!
All the bikes you lsited are nice. Just get one with Di2 and that you like the look of. That'll be the best one. (if the geo works)
-
• #6524
My summer bike was a Condor Baracchi which was a bit short in the top tube for me, I'm currently riding a steel Graham Weigh race bike through winter, the geo is more aggressive than the condor and it feels good.
Regarding flexibility I can reach my toes, but not much more, was doing a lot of circuit training last year and really felt the benefit of a strong core on the bike, however the last six months have been mostly riding and I have lost some of that core support i think. ( obvious solution here isn't there ) -
• #6525
Fair then yeah an upgrade in bike would be nice.
As I said, get whichever you like the look of and the geo works. Then get Di2.
You could cobble together a CAAD10 105 for 1660 or buy the ultegra OTP version with the SI chainset for the same price. And no 'gatorskins. Looks like a win.
