  • The one from my last post.

  • Latest one. Not sure about the type/tubing. Owner bought it new in 1993 and got it painted in local team colors to race it. I guess Corsa/Corsa Extra.

Still trying to find any info about the frame, serial "f 8962"

  • Eddy Merckx Alu.

  • Yes, planning on visiting the expo soon!

  • That's nice, same colour as my MX leader frameset.

Does anyone know where to get Team Telekom pink touch-up paint?

  • Does anyone know where to get Team Telekom pink touch-up paint?

Probably at Boots in the nail polish section. -:)

In all seriousness.. these colours not only came in batches but also fade. You'd be probably "closer" searching through the the nail polish pinks for a match.. If its for a restoration you might want to see a auto paint body shop as it's their trade.

  • I've fitted my MX leader up as a single speed for the moment just to test the ride.

I have to say though i'm a bit bemused by it's ride qualities which are, very sure, solid and comfortable but...I think i will soon get bored of it. This Merckx lacks the edginess of the crit-geo Italian frames that i'm used to, where one has to concentrate just not to fall off, whereas with the Leader you'd have to be hit by a sniper in order to come away from it.
Rather like an old geezer's Rover car sedate is how i'd term it.

However you can tell it was designed for long stages or days in the saddle, probably on flattish courses under leaden skies.

  • Hey people. Some years ago I bought a very ratty Merckx, that I've been trying to identify. I posted it in the "Can you help identify..." thread, but noone could help. Maybe someone here might? It's a 58 square steelframe, weighs 1850 grams, there are no logos on the top of the seat stay, internal cable routing, race number tab and the type of BB shell can be seen in the pics. There's no rifling in the seattube, and the frame number has been ground of by a LBS, when they gave it a Danish frame number in '95. They were Merckx dealers, but unfortunately their records are no more, due to a flood.

  • Right now it's hiding in the attic with a NOS Time Featherlight 1" fork, a ControlTech 130mm -10 degrees 1" stem and a not entirely period correct 6600 group. It could turn into something nice for summer...

  • Oh yeah: Both chainstays are chromed and there is a faint 'H' stamped near the edge of the BB shell, which according to cadre.org suggests a Corsa Extra, but with the non-rifled tubing I'm not convinced...
    Edit: Takes a 27,2

  • Could just as well be a Corsa. The internal brake cable routing and chrome was available also on the Corsa. In MTO frames the key difference between Corsa and Corsa extra was the tubing-- it has a number hanger so that makes it clearly MTO, resp. team issue. Corsa got SL, SP or 531 while the Corsa Extra model was designated for SLX, SPX, 753 and MAX. I'd guess Columbus SP as it was a popular choice for big riders on pavĂ©.

  • MTO meaning made-to-order?
And would that mean that details such as the chroming and the top of the seat stays can't really be used as identifiers as they were all options?

  • Finished yesterday. Late 80's Corsa in Team Kelme colors.

  • My Corsa Extra. Record / C-record mix. Hand-built record hubs on open pro's. Not sure about the frame age - it has an E number on the BB. But its a team Belgium colour way. I like it :)

  • Here is my MX Leader frame.

  • Nice frame! Would love me some mx leader.. Always a size too big when I see them on eBay. But damn man, that pile of clothes.. Hope the flat ain't as messy as that.

  • If you're into bikes and there aren't any females around It's possible that one's abode can quiet quickly descend into being a place of shambolicness...

  • I'll find a better photo, but here is my 78 or 79 de Rosa built Merckx. Think it was one of the first from the factory. Resprayed a couple of years ago for when I went to Anjou but it caused quite a stir. All Nouvo Record although not all the same year. Bottom bracket is a plastic jobbie till I find an Italian thread Campag one with the right width axle. Mavic rims are abit new. Its one of the best bikes I've ever had to ride. Only bike I won't sell!

  • Nice, you running tubblies on it?

Hilary would most likely have the correct cup and cone bottom bracket for this.

  • Yes thats part of the reason it rides so well. I love it so much even the wife recognises it amongst all the others. I'll find the correct one if I look hard enough and HS is a good thought.

  • First Merckx entered my "stable": an Alu Mega (size 58x57 CC) with Time Steel Barrel carbon fork on it. Probably from 1996 ("96" stamped in the BB-shell).

Also available in the "Classified"-section because a bit too large for me...
