Needs to make sure he's got some running shorts.

Has anyone pointed out yet that Steve's nickname is Teethgrinder?
Oh, so someone has.

We should adopt a general policy of only referring to the riders by their nicknames in this thread. :)

People are generally faster on recumbents, so it would be surprising if it didn't give Tarzan an advantage, learning how to ride it notwithstanding.
He does look rather well-supported with his van and bikes on the back.

Epic... He is going to be ready for Tour de France once he recovers.
I wonder how many shoes/shorts/pedals/brakes/tyres/bikes he goes through when he is done.

with what diminutive would you like to be addressed, herr flick?

Noooo, I mean the people who are actually doing the riding. But you knew that. You can call me ArmchairCyclingRecordHolder if you want.

My estimates
Shoes - 5-6 pairs - this might be a bit high. Because of the sort of riding Steve is doing he shouldn't be spending too much time with his feet out of the pedals which is where most of the degredation happens. They may last longer than usual wear and tear allows. However, Steve may want to change sooner to allow for keeping higher structural efficiency.
Shorts - 15-20 pairs - He's going to have a bit of range to cope with different seasonal conditions. I find three pairs will last me well for a 12000 mile season. However, being sponsored means that he can decommission older ones a bit quicker. Milltag will want him looking his best as much as possible.
Pedals - 3 sets. Because of the way Steve is riding during the attempt, I don't think he's going to properly wear out a set of pedals. He's got three bikes and so I don't see that he'll need to buy in more sets unless something simply isn't up to standard. Imagine the warranty claim though;
These pedals only lasted three months
And how far have you ridden with them? 1000 miles or so?
How big is "so"?Tyres - 25-30 pairs. I can probably get through a 12000 mile season on around 3 pairs. Steve will err on the side of caution when it comes to those cuts and gouges that you inevitable develop so will likely change sooner. Mind you, he won't be hammering descents or riding around urban environments which do more damage.
Bikes - 3 - He has three, I doubt any of the frames will die during the course of the attempt but all will show at least some wear and tear.
Brakes - Steve's on discs, riding mainly on country roads with little descending or stopping needed. I really have no frame of reference for this so I guess around 10 sets.

I made no reference to YACF. You seem confused Schickles. Have a lie down.

TG, he's probably too modest to meaningfully adopt Tommy Godwin's initials. Or indeed Throbbing Gristle's. Then again their first opus was called "Second Annual Report".....

i followed Steve for a bit today when he was riding along the B4027 after Islip; nearly shat himself when I DAS'd him!

The third guy listed in that spreadsheet is riding 30 miles a day and is already 2500 miles behind the required run rate. Why is he being included?
He's known as Steve "Teethgrinder" Abraham on Yacf... but yes he seems very likeable.
