Some good snow in Derby, power lines down all over the East Midlands.

They'll probably not notice.

I drove down the M1 after the snow started. 30-40mph for ages and one/two lanes you could actually use. It covered up the white lines and there were points where you could barely see out of the windscreen.

I never want to do that again.

I am now worrying that ice is going to ruin my ride tomorrow :/

That's possibly the most treacherous drive I have done in England. 22o miles took 6 hours

Leeds to Leicester was 30 mph all the way, hard to tell where the lanes were, (virtually no one using the right hand lane) SUVs and artics spewing out huge amounts of sludge. Total concentration needed. Intense!

They should clearly mark out traffic lanes in a colour that will stand out in the snow.

A weather related question to those more knowledgeable than myself: Is gritting bike paths as effective as gritting roads? I've heard that it needs the action of car tyres to be effective.

Quite a few people came of on the NCN4 into Bristol this morning due to black ice and I want to sound knowledgeable when hounding the major as to why paths aren't gritted on what's probably the busiest cycle route outside of London.

Well they grit pavements and that works?

That's cos of all the cars driving on them.

grit is like, salt and stones and shit right?
logically speaking for any surface if that is put down, it would:

1. salt - raise the freezing temp of the water causing le black ice
   
2. stones and shit - provide traction on a slippery dippery surface.
