They'll be safer than most Jag, BMW and Audi drivers though, that's for sure.

Ironically, many of the accidents which computers will not be able to prevent are those caused by humans.
Nuff said.

Exactly.
The caveats described are mechanical limits rather than human elements.
The scenarios are "Drunk person walking in front of car within the car's stopping distance".
I still reckon the car will act far more sanely with respect to everything else that is happening on the road at the time... the drunk person will definitely be hit, but the car won't have swerved across the road into oncoming traffic or mounted the kerb, etc.

Look out drunkards!
Oh.. shit..

I see it as a margin of error. Human = unpredictable and can escalate quickly. Roboto = To my knowledge, reliably predictable.
At least the robot car will stop after hitting me and dial emergency services. -

the Sunday Times had a very rum article yesterday, claiming driverless cars would take ages because Cars overtaking cyclists would have to abide "by the letter of the law".

^ disastrous! Cars obeying the Highway Code of their own volition? We definitely can't have that. They might end up crashing everywhere, into buildings and people!

Jesus wept.
Traffic causes traffic jams, you fucking goons.
-
• #324
Interesting point about failing to act on subtle human interactions like nods though.

I'd imagine (hope) this would be negated by the combined effect of every robo-car not driving like a selfish douche.
I'm assuming there's robo-saturation though, rather than that awkward transition period where a proportion of the traffic is robo and there are still 'normal' cars.
No, your a fucking topia.
