Looks like they are measuring crank arm deflection, not shifting quality.
But nice that they updated their test :)
I have S-Works chainrings if anyone wants to try them.

Read the notes.
For what it's worth I've never had any issues with S-Works cranks and rings on my Tarmac. They were fine on the Shiv when I had them too but then Di2 will shift the shit out of anything.

I read the notes - they don't mention spiderring shifting
They do say it looks nice though, which is odd
I used s-works cranks on my CX bike when it was BB30 - because light, cheap and easy to discombobulate.
Still have them and two spiders if anyone wants them.

I was talking about the S-Works.
I've got a near new S-Works Shiv crankset in a box at home as well as 7800 DA cranks. Probably should get rid of them but think they might end up on an audax bike if I build one.

discombobulate.
Have to look up this, new word learnt, thank!

Rode with normal cable group yesterday after 7 weeks of di2. I think I've spoiled myself.

Nah. This bike needs to be locked up places and generally abused. No leccy gears.
-
• #3810
Ride a fixed wheel bicycle, and wired the Di2 shifter to emitted an electric shock on your legs when you want to change gear.
-
• #3811
Sorry ed, I fell asleep there for a minute. You were saying?
-
• #3812
Cheers for the advice guys. I'll ride the stock crank of whatever I get I think. SiSL2 is outrageously expensive. Perhaps S-Works/Lightening with Praxis might be the go later on...
-

SiSL2 is outrageously expensive.
RRP - certainly. eBay is your friend tho. I picked up a new, unused pair with spiderring and ceramic BB + axle + crank bolts for... £300. Which is still stupid for cranks, but they look nice. Except the spiderring, which does not.
Drop me a line if you want to try S-Works.

• #3814
Would it be worth it trying to track down some good condition SiSL cranks (not the "2")?
Cheers on the S-works, I'll let you know, but postage might be a killer! (currently in straya) -
• #3815
Yeah - there isn't a huge amount of difference between the SISL and SISL 2. They just machine a bit more of the crank arm away. You can fit the spiderring to the original SI crank which goes for around £170 in good nick - if you can find one. All the parts are interchangeable IIRC - they are all iterations of this, from 1992.
(although the axle on the Magic was 24mm)

That looks strangely amazing. Only 730.2g!
Maybe an SI or SiSL on ebay would be the way to go. Now for the other question: spider-ring or 130bcd spider to Praxis? I'm under the impression that Praxis manufacture the spider-ring anyway? (Although they seem to be tight lipped on the topic...)

• #3817
Ah, interesting, thank you.
-
• #3818
Spidy if you want Shimano like shifting. Again - ebay for that shiz - folks tend to sell the spare ones they get with their Evos and there isn't a huge market for them.
Someone posted one of the road Magic cranks on here in the classifieds ages ago - didn't have a BB and without that it's a nice paperweight.

Groupset cranks ftw. Same goes for brakes.
-
• #3820
for the aesthetic I'd agree, hence I have everything Ultegra on the Serotta- but that goes out of the window for a bike that needs to answer questions that are hard or expensive for "full groupset" to answer.
Ultegra crank based power for example.

Aka the impossible to buy and really expensive pioneer unit.
-
• #3822
If you check a decent review of cranks or brakes. The top offerings from the Three main groupset manufactures, tend to come out on the top shelf. When you add the value you get from buying these as part of a groupset. Its a no brainer.
Its only really Worth looking elsewhere if you want a extra short/long cranks, or a powermeter.
Currently installing 6870, and its impressing me. Silly details like the small bolt for adjusting lever Reach. Lots of simple neat solutions. Not sure I'm going to love it like my Campag. But its already showing signs of being easier to live With.
Not looking forward to installing the ultegra Direct Mount rear brake though. Seem to be in a million small parts.

@Howard Better off with the Lightning or S-Works (BB30) crank:
