I'm looking to change my front forks and put a mini-v brake on the front and then a nutted fitting road caliper on the back, what sort of brake levers will be ok with both or will I need to pick some then use problem solvers?

I cannot filter my own comments in a certain thread, sorry, conversation
You can, but you have to add one of the two filters to the URL manually.

Your gear ratio / chain length may be such that the same bit of chain hits the same bit of chain ring on every rotation - so the combination of a specific tooth and a specific link may be the problem.
Also chain ring bolts.
[Edit] Just realised it's geared, not fixed.
Nothing to see here, folks...

Go to the thread, search conversation for "authorId:53946", tick comments, get something like this:
https://www.lfgss.com/search/?q=type:comment+authorId:53946+id:162655
(@peter_v - that authorId is you. It's in your profile URL).

Mini v brakes can be used with normal pull road levers so you'll be fine.

Who makes nice new black quill stems with a 26.0 clamp?
-

-
• #65788
Notto. That's 25.4mm, he wants 26.0mm
-
• #65789
I was wrong anyway, Ben's have the 26.0 version as well as the 25.4
-
• #65790
Mind you, nice quill stem is an oxymoron anyway, so you might as well add an inverse shim.

Suitcase that you can put a 700c wheel in - anyone got one, if so is it any good?

Thanks @mands, @mdcc_tester, @Hefty.
I've always wanted to ask this. Seems like now's a good time. Why do quill stems not have open faces (in general) like ahead stems?
Is there some article that tells the story of when quill stems transitioned? It's like one year they were on bikes, the next year they weren't. Gone.

perfect! thanks a lot

Why do quill stems not have open faces (in general) like ahead stems?
At the time, many AHead stems had closed bar clamps too. I think the move to detachable clamps was mainly a matter of manufacturing simplicity once people started making forged stems with tubular extensions, but the introduction of tight bends on road bars made sure they stayed that way.
Is there some article that tells the story of when quill stems transitioned?
Not sure about one article, since it was a swift but far from instantaneous transition. DiaCompe patented the AHeadset in 1990. A few other things were happening at the same time which made people pay attention.
- Yet another mountain bike boom, but this time they were serious because
- Suspension forks were about to get workable
- The cold war ended and defence cuts left a lot of people with experience of high quality small run manufacture looking for an outlet
So, suspension fork makers could cut inventory due to needing only one steerer length, and a lot of boutique stem builders could swap very easily to the new design. It probably didn't hurt that steerers grew to 1¼" and then shrunk back to 1⅛", so people didn't just automatically keep using the old headsets they'd grown up with.

I fitted up a new freewheel which I suspect is a rebranded dicta, been riding on a shimano one for ages and this might sound weird but the new one feels like it drags and isn't as free as the old shimano one. Can anyone suggest a freewheel that is 16t-19t and a bit better? are the sturmey archer ones worth looking at or are they just like the dicta ones? why did the shimano ones get so expensive all of a sudden?
-
• #65797
Ebay for NOS Suntour BMX units.
-
• #65798
@clockwise you think shimano is expensive have a look at the price of white industries.
You get what you pay for
Cost = quality
Dicta < shimano < WI (or other £40+ freewheels)I'd assume SA are between dicta and shimano, but not experienced them for 10 years.

£23?
http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/shimano-single-speed-freewheel/rp-prod7805
Or if you venture as far as page 2 on the Google results you can find one for £19 delivered.
Is that mega expensive? How much did they used to be? My LBS wants £15 for a Dicta.

I just remember them being £10 years back. I know an awful lot are dicta(diamondback, savage, ect ect) sort of like tektro brakes are rebranded often. Just wanted to know the alternatives of the shimano before WI or paul stuff that might be decent. BLB 30 clicks?
UTFS question
looking for a pic I posted in 'Rat Bikes! Pub Bikes Beaters! Frankenbikes!' of a Colnago with Delta brakes turned into city bike with rack etc. in Lucca, Italy at the time of the world championships over there 2013.
how can I find it back the fastest way? posts only say '2 years ago' instead of exact date/time, and I cannot filter my own comments in a certain thread, sorry, conversation
