Also i bought some Rivendell Jack Browns today, for hipster cred. I'll report on how little difference I experience in ride comfort.

Where did you buy those from?

As you know it's the pressure you can safely run that makes the difference.
Between 28s on narrow clincher rims and 23s on narrow tubular rims that difference is probably less than 10psi (before 28 starts moving around too much)?

But it's the contact patch with the road that matters, not the width of a tyre under no pressure from rider weight.

But it's the shape of the contact patch with the road that matters...

Would the wider tyre and a certain tyre pressure help lessen the risk of the rim going out of true if I hit little holes etc? With my size this can sometimes be an annoying issue. I know this mainly depends on other factors, but just curious. Bike shops always told me to keep the tyre pressure up, and if you're heavier that's also true. Just wondering.

@ChrisMGS you'll know it's too low when you're getting pinch flats (snakebites in the tube). That's also when you risk damaging rims. Bike shops are telling to keep the pressure up for these reasons.

Just punch Your weight into a online calculator. If it tells you to run much over 100 PSI. You really should consider wider tyres.
But mainly if you are Heavy you want a little extra total spoke tension. Preferably spread over a few extra spokes. The tyres will absorb the shock of impacts. But the extent of the tension/detension cycle the spokes experiance is independant of this.

Looking for a wheelset that might resemble H plus son formation face in white? Quite a fan of that deep dish rim look and on the new Pompino frame in military green matte, I thought white rims would be a nice look.
Any decent lookalikes or should I just go for H plus son. I did see this http://www.lfgss.com/conversations/260287/#comment12036867 going on here...

Don't get white rims though.

Think again plz.

I was worried it might make me look like a massive twat, yes...
I dunno, they seem to look quite good some of the time!
If not, is there a more discrete white/cream I could go for?
or do I drop my dream of being that guy with white rims... if so, any ideas for the pomp?

I just plugged my data in, suggested 65 and 80 psi. Ha, not going to happen.
(wheel load based on scherrit fit).

Normal bicycle rims that don't look shit?

Hence, I ask for any good recommendations...

Any round rims will work. Something like this would make sense.

Round? Are you sure...

cheers for that!
I've ridden 23 - 28mm on narrow rims, 25mm on TB14s, 23mm tubs on deep carbon track wheels and 25mm tubs on Zipp 303s and I would be hard pushed to describe the difference between any of them. I do notice some difference when I ride CX tyres though.
